Best locations to stay

Hi all,

Been talking to my lady friend yesterday and she says I should book a hotel in Chiang mai rather than just turning up as we are going there for Loy Kratong and it can be busy and popular.

Been looking at a few hotels but before I make enquiries I want to ask those who have stayed b4, which are the best locations in your view, hotel areas which are close to or in the thick of the action.

I have seen a map and noticed the areas have names like ''old town'' etc.
I certainly don't want to end up on the outskirts if I can help it, in a hotel that is too far away and a pain in the a$$ to travel to & from.

Any info will be appreciated

Take a hotel close to the night market. Lot of shopping in the evening for your friend, so a lot of people. Also Loi Kratong parade is passing close by on the way to the river.
i posted some pic's of the parade earlier .

Thanks captain,

Only problem I am having is that the hotels in that area I have tried are fully booked.

Do you have any contact info for a place you stayed ?

Hi BFB,

I have stayed at the Royal Princess on Chan Klang Rd right in the middle of the night market..............seemed like a pretty good hotel to me....

I think I paid about BHT1000 but I just chcked it out on a website and it seems that it is double that as of this week due to high season

Good luck with you visit................it's a great time to be there

No, I used Novotel Suriwongse (now Zenith) and Royal Princess before. But that is a few years ago.
Anything in the vicinity of the night market up to the city gate (I think Tapae gate) is OK, even those just inside the gate are not so far away.

I am booked into the Top North Guest House for a few days in Dec. Only 500bt and they have a swimming pool. It's just off Moon Muang in the old town. Last year I stayed at Golden Fern and that only cost 400bt for air-con, fridge, hot water & tv. They do all kinds of food. It was only 2 mins walk west of Tha Pae gate. I tried to book them again but got no reply to my emails.
