Bars in Chiang Mai???
Where are they???
I'll be making my first trip to Chiang Mai very soon. The hotel is next to the night market so I know where to buy the tourist tat, but where do I go for company?? Cheers Jamus

If you mean the night market that runs along one of the central main roads with hundreds of stalls either side, then there is (or was in 2002) an area very close by just off on one side. This is known as the Night Bazaar area just off Chang Khlan Road.
Another place where there's a few bars is along Loi Khro Road especially up at the end near the moat (there is a moat running around the entire inner area known as the old city and in parts you can still see the old city wall). This intersection with Khotchasan Road was where I spent most nights and if you walk down towards Tapae Gate there's the one and only ago-go bar there (or it was at the time). I've added a couple of links below which might help you a bit, it's a quiet place so don't expect too much on the "girly" front but it is there, you just need to go and look for it. The standard of girls was good in my opinion (i.e. looks and attitude) but I've read a lot of posts saying guys were disappointed - up to them !!  http://www.chiangmai-maps.com/ http://www.chiangmai-online.com/ Good luck

Yes, the hotel is meant to be next to the night bazaaar , it's the Suriwonges. Anyone know if it's guest friendly?
As long as I can find a few bars where I can find good company and play a few games of jenga and connect four with good company I'll be happy. As for anything more energetic, I;ll take that as it comes!

As you come out of the Suriwongse turn left and you will soon come to the bars say a cpl of hundred yards.
There is a thai boxing arena on the left with a few bars in the complex and if you carry on there are bars on both sides of the street. When you come to the end of the road by the canal turn right a few more bars and an agogo. There is another agogo i found turn left oout of the hotel and take the first right its only side street behind the night bazaar.

I had a feeling that they had gone but I wasn't sure. This means that Loi Khro Road is the only area I know, as mars says it starts with a small soi right outside the Imperial Mae Ping hotel which has a boxing ring in the middle and bars around the outside. Then follow the road up to the canal, more bars there and on the way. Once at the top of the road (by the canal) turn right a few more there and some more across the other side of the canal.
 Unfortunately I don't know where the Suriwonges hotel is.

Good stuff !!
The little complex of bars with the boxing ring that has been mentioned, was where I had most fun, but in 2002 there weren't many bars that had girls that would actually go with you. Also, there used to be a ladyboy show in the boxing ring after the boxing "show" and a lot of the LB's used to hang around trying to get a punter afterwards  Below is a picture of me with one of the LB's that I thought was actually a TG !! Unfortunately the picture does not do "shim" justice - it was only when he/she pulled her costume to one side and showed me an enormous portion of meat and 2 veg  that I realised what I was dealing with !! This was in my pre-darkside days and I politely declined on that occasion.

All of the bars around the boxing ring were open in October and most have pool tables but the quality of ladies is not that good, the LB show still goes on in the ring ( No the boxing ring) and there are a cpl of lb bars so check before you shop.

If you look for a gogo then go to Bunny Club. I had a girl from there.100 m further on go to Zanzibar . There are really nice girls. Only 5-8 but quite nice. At midnight you should visit Bubble Disco and order a Bottle of Red Label Whisky. It is the cheapest drink you can get !!! Why??? It is only 600 Baht -+ ice and Soda about 750 Baht. Invite the girls and you will be lucky. ..........
