Moving to Chiang Mai for 6 weeks

I'm moving to Chiang Mai for anywhere between 4 - 6 weeks depending on how long it takes me to train the hotel staff at the Dhara Dhevi. Any BM's living in Chiang Mai?? I should be there from the week of the 23rd of Oct to ??? unknown date as yet. I've been there once already and it seemed like a very dull and boring city... Any advice on what to do and what to expect would be greatly appreciated.

dull and boring..........hmmmmmmmm,didnt get that impression myself, maybe quiet ,laidback for a city yes.

i really enjoyed my stay up there.was there for around 3 weeks, including a few days in pai.
i thought the nightlife was great, bubble, spicey, sharkeys etc...then u got more of the thai disco which i enjoy, band, then dj,table service.
some really nice spots along the river, riverside, cant remenber ther others, but really nice places, one i went in was big ,one end had live act,the other bar joining had a dj playing, really nice joints.
i stayed LOh kroh, which is amongst some of the beer bar action,i would say enough to keep u occupied for nightlife,i did include trekking, temples in my stay up there,i did post about them and CM in my 'round the world tour' thread, have a gander if u got time, and if my dates are correct u should be there for loi kratong, thats something thats gotta be seen CM ways.
enjoy pal.

I totally agree with Wylos sleepless one........CM is a fab spiritual place and great to explore the jungles, mountains, rivers and Burma fringes..........

OK the nightlife/P4P scene isn't exactly patong but the locals are pretty friendly and sociable I found.....

send URtheman a pm.....he is up there working quite a bit.....

Thanks for that guys, was a little worried i'd get a "use the search function" as i should know better... But was feeling a little lazy...

Wylos - Will read your round the world tour to get a better idea. Thanks mate.

Nelsonone - I really won't have time to do the trekking and tours as i will be preparing for a grand opening of a bar facility. But if i get a chance the treks i would like to do. Thanks Nels will pm Uther before i go to see if he'll be around.

i guess my impression of CM came from A - being there with my parents last time and B - When i heard it is Thailand's second biggest city i guess i was expecting something a little more like bkk. Wrong of me to judge a place before i've actually properly explored it, which i hope i get a chance to do at some stage while i'm there.

Once again Thanks guys.

I guess being lazy isn't a good thing... Quite surprised IJ hasn't popped up the "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION". Must be the girls in patts keeping him away from a computer.555 I'm sure you're having a great time, was nice to meet ya when you were in Phuket. Anyway finally got off my **** and done my own research with the help of some bm's and of course the search function.

So just to recap places to party are:

1. Foxy Lady
2. Soi Loi kroh for beer bars if i'm not mistaken
3. River side (Brasserie)
4. Bunny nightclub
5. Bubble

Am i missing anything???

Oh yes the wats and spiritual side... Will def be doing those at some stage...

1. Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
2. Phu Phing Palace
3. Wat Chiang Mai
4. Wat Phra Sing
5. Doi Inthanon National Park
6. San Kamphaeng Hot Springs

Anything else i'm missing here??

Take one or 2 days and go to Chiang Rai, the hill tribes and do a trip with a long tail on the Mekong, border between Myanmar, Thailand and Laos.

I'm in Cm right now and will be in Phuket on Monday but here's the scoop:

I can't give you info on the spiritual side but Cm is more happening than Phuket in the nightlife by far. There are two universities here the beer bars suck but the nightlife happens and it goes late.

here's some info:

1. go to riverside, it's happening and has two bands and so many girls and most are not BG's but girls who work hotels, and other jobs and they are very cute. Very recomended.
2. Skip Foxy Lady I don't know why anyone likes that place.
3. Bubbles disco is for tourists give it a miss.
4. Bunny nightclub, never heard of it.
5. Give the beer bars a miss until after you go check out the following:

Firstly if you speak Thai you will have even a better time in Cm but it's not manadatory.

The disco's in no order - Warm up, Fashion House, Discovery, Horizon, ED 4.

Late night and your drunk and really drunk go to Spicy.

There are two discos I'm forgetting but will post when I'm sober.

I love CM and it's a city that you warm up to and the women are much better looking than Phuket IMHO.

Also it's a much more integrated city where the Thais and Farangs mix.

Cheers! and enjoy!

Come check out manathai village on soi Tapae 3 when you get a chance as it's one of the hotels I work at.

robert....i know u been up there for a while, but i have to pull u up on a point made, maybe im lookin at it from a more musical point of view, but how can u reccomend spicey over bubble,'its for tourist' as u say, dont get me wrong i spent a lot of time in spicey, yes probably more than bubble ,but, spicey was the late night spot, and packed to the rafters with tourist, when i was there u could hardly move(from tourist),maybe me but the music played in bubble was a lot better than spicey ,but granted maybe personal preference, but had proper DJs ,turntablist, and was playing very upfront beats, nicer, bigger club, just my view, and i know u state if your really drunk go to spicey, and yes there are far better underground thai disco than both.dunno if u really reccomend spicey, but alright when your out your head and want some late night action.

i would agree with robert the beer bars arent up too much,i didnt spend time in any other than number 1 bar(loh kroh 1),great relaxed vibe there, open all day ,and it was on my doorstep, met some really nice people there, very chilled and friendly staff.highly reccomend it

If you are comparing Bubble against Spicy yes the music is probably better than Spicy but why go to bubbles whe you can go to all the other discos I mentioned which are far better than Spicy or Bubbles IMHO.

yep agree, just wanted to get my point across.

totally agree with the mix between thai and farang, its weird, down south, if u know to speak thai(which i dont, but i do try)u get a different vibe of the girls, not always bad but different,i feel,i suppose thats dealing with BGs
but in CM,north,or were your meeting workin 'good girls' majority are impressed and its nice.
And i heard Robert mention about thai friends, male more to the point, and its just not heard of much down in the tourist areas,of course u have friends ,but a main majority of your meetings will be with TGs,my point being i just think u get to meet more people, whether male or female, and i say its a better 'real thailand experience.

Dont know the Spicy but compared to the othe clubs and disco´s i know, Bubbles is my favorite because of the music.I enjoyed the mandalay too( good live bands) but is nothing to go for dancing, just hanging around. Also nice (almost thai people), is the Monkey club.Good live music and nice people there.Just my two cents to this.

Cheers for that Uther, I'm arriving in CM on Thursday. We should catch up for a couple of drinks next time you're in CM. I should be there till Jan/Feb next year. I heard it was a university town
