What to do in four days?

Next week I will be visiting Chang Mai for four days for the first time. I would like to take two days for trips and two days for shopping and relaxation.

What trips are must do trips when visiting Chang Mai?

By the way I could have sworn I placed the same posting here yesterday but it seems to have disappeared.

Cool

For me, 2 memories stand out...

1). Doi Suthep - the Golden Temple.
Set up in the nearby hills and visible from the city on a clear day, this is a good place to visit. There's a certain unexplainable "atmosphere" that you will only appreciate if you visit it and walk around. It's a lttle eerie, almost like you're in the presence of something great but incomprehendible. Next time I go to Chiang Mai I will revisit.

2). Elephant Trekking and White Water Rafting.
An unforgettable day for me, mainly because I was with 5 mates from the UK and we all had a great day. That aside, it was a fantastic experience to ride on an elephant, pretty scary at times especially the part when we crossed a river. That same river was the venue for the white water rafting, but don't expect too much - the river was brown and very tame but it was still good fun none the less.

If you are going to watch any Muay Thai while in LOS, do so in the arena north of Ping River. Only 400B for ringside, and the matches are ten times better than 2000B in Patong, for example.

If you havn't seen one, an elephant show, then it is a must. We visited a place called Maesa, which is about 20km from Chiang Mai. Only 100bt to enter. Heres the link... Maesa Elephant Camp : Chiang Mai, Thailand. The show is on at 9-30 and 13-30. In the same valley, a few kms away is a touristy Hill Tribe village, worth a look, but seemed expensive to enter.

Night Bazaar for shopping is great.

A walk around some of the old temples in the centre of the "moat" is worth it, too.

1. I'd agree with Doi Suthep in Chiagng Mai
2. Night Market every night
3. Sunday Night Market different to No.2
4. Lampang (sic?) Elephant conservation centre
