Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai & Pai
Hey everyone,
I'm going up North on December 2008. It will be my 1st time there and my 2nd time in Thailand.
I will go to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and I also wanna see Pai, all in 1 week.
First, it would be great if someone could let me know if is it possible, if they are enough days to visit these 3 cities.
Then, it would be definitly terrific to know:
1. What are the must sees/dos in Chiang Mai?
2. The good accomodation there.
3. What are the must sees/dos in Chiang Rai?
4. The good accomodation there.
5. What are the mus sees/dos in Pai?
6. The good accomodation there.
7. What is the best way to go from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai? (any website where I can book in advance, or check anything?)
8. What is the best way to go from Chiang Mai to Pai? (any website where I can book in advance, or check anything?)
I know they are a lot of questions, but I really wanna have the best of this trip and enjoy to the maximum there, seeing the best amazing must sees as I'm gonna stay for a short period of time.
Thank you very much in advance to everyone for helping me.

Is there a reason you want the BM`s to hand you all the info? Slow internet or???
Do a search on Google and find it out yourself..
Im not having a go at you, but for me it seems you are to lazy to look for the info yourself....

Hi Tarzan,
Actually I did some researches on internet already, I was just wondering that maybe some people here already went there, and have good plans to share, that's it.
On internet you can find general information, and I wanted to have some insights from people who already went there and experimented it. Nothing more, but I understand your point.

Its just that it pops up loads of people here every now and then, asking all the questions you ask, get good answers and then after their trip, not a sound.. Makes people avoid answer, because all the info they have given, it would be fun if the guys came back with their views and thoughts and shared their experiences. Could help many others looking for the same info...
There are some guys with knowledge about Chiang Mai at least, so maybe one of them will help you..

I totally agree with you Tarzan and support you at 100%.
What can I say, I'm very sorry for the people who invest time answering other people and then never get a feedback. That's sad indeed.
For me, as I told you, I already did researches on internet, but I really would love to have some insights and advices from real fans. You know, there are always things and places that only fans or local Thai people know. I'm talking about that, things and places that maybe you wouldn't find on internet. Or maybe you find in internet, but at the end there is too much information and you don't know what is worth seeing or doing.
Again, my point was not to ask to plan my trip, but really some advices. Maybe I expressed myself in a wrong way, and I'm sorry for that as English is not my mother tongue.
Cheers!

Is this a sign of the Apocalypse?
Nacho. There are many threads with trip reports about Chang Mai. Did you do a search on this forum?

hi Nacho! (interesting board name 5555)
went this year April up to Chiang Mai, so I can tell you a little bit about it (even if i haven't really seen much...)
the trip/tour was organized by a travel agency, so please don't ask me about public transportation there (we were traveling with a bus)
stayed in the Tarin Hotel, price was 1000THB/night from what I've read.
room was nice and big, don't know if the hotel is GF...
the city really big, so just catch a tuk tuk to go around there; prices are way better than in Patong or somewhere else 5555
one thing you must visit is the beautiful Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, it's the big one on the mountain great view over Chiang Mai from there!
use the stairs to go up there
in the evening you can go to the Night Bazaar for some shopping if you're interested; there's also very good and cheap food market inside of a building (can't really remember where that was, but i could find out the name if you need it).
nightlife is also available from what I've seen, there were plenty of bars along some streets...
I'm sure some other BM's can tell you more about it 5555
well, actually I stayed only 2 nights there, so the time was very very limited to see some more things there (did mainly the tourist-stuff like a visit to an elephant camp and orchid farm and the "undiscovered" village in the mountains )
but I liked it, will definitely go there again!

Is Chiang Mai big, or as you say we can do almost everything by Tuk Tuk?

I'm taking note of the Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, it seems like everyone is recommending it as well as the Night Bazaar

Thank you very much for your help, I really appreciate it

Chiang Mai is the second biggest city after BKK from what I've heard...
but I think it's no problem to go with a tuk tuk around the city (except for visiting the Wat, but who knows )
the 2 nights were way to short, especially because we had only one real "free" night to explore the city.
so i would recommend at least 3 days??!
actually this also depends on the things you would like to do/visit there...
