just did trip to CM flew with bangkok air from bangkok always find them good for internal flights in thailand.(http://www.bangkokair.com/)
Could not find money changer in domestic terminal so be careful that you have some baht on you when arriving.
Taxi on left end of terminal 120 baht to hotel fixed price.
I stayed at rydges anmora nice hotel,central right at Tha Phae gate short walk to night markets and beer bars, 1500 baht from asiaroom.com,joiner fee 600 baht and seem to treat your friend well (took GF with me so no joiner fee)
On the bar scene didnt do much looking but was drinking at bar near night markets with man made cliff for rock climbing, was good to have a laugh at them trying to climb it.(250 baht for 2 hours)more i drank more I laughed.
Also the Red Lion Pub in Loi Kroh rd was good for a feed and a few ales,Riverside had live reggae music,60s hits and was pretty packed lots of tourists but still o/k.
Art cafe was good for western feed with amazing menu took a week to read it !,Mikes Burgers next to Rygdes hotel had terrific hamburgers and stopped often there for hot dogs late at night.

also across from rydges is a pub come cafe called "Cafe ----" numbers i think like 1923 good feed great people very friendly good place to watch the world go by.
also went on tour dinner to Khum Khantoke was very good ,food was excellent and plentiful and the cultral dancing worth seeing.
Food and drink prices are on average a bit lower than Patong,but that is to be expected
tuk tuk charge about 30 baht average for a shortish trip,didnt use them much.
also the Songteaw taxi is good for short trips at 10 baht.
the trip to Doi Suthep is great a very impresive temple and very beautiful,dont miss it.
also try and get to the "temple of the jude buddha" very good and had a great chat to the monks there.
Think next time I go to Chiang mai may stay a little longer and do some side trips.

no "cliff on cliff" with my front verandah couldnt pull myself up there

will post some photos when i get time still getting the work problems sorted out !!

great for sight seeing and shopping,i didnt have much to do with bar scene had my GF with me.
nightlife was good with good music,nice bars good food
some lookers some average like the rest of thailand
but im shore some of the girls would like to see youses,next time may go solo to try some culture myself.

nice reports mate...
gonna have a look for the 1 st time at the end of the month,sounds good up there,i heathere is some good trekking,but i hear u say some beer bars,looks like the trekkings out the window,555.i hear many good reports from chang mai,so im looking forward to it.
