Chat room problems
I started posting this Monday night, tried it again and it was OK so I deleted the whole thread.
It seems apparent though, I have a problem connecting to Live Chat
I log in,the programme loads up to the last section say 95% and then hangs.
After around 30secs I get the following error message-:
"Could not connect to www.phuket-info.com.8080
Possible reasons include:
The chat server at www.phuket-info.com is temporarily unavailable.
Your computer is behind a firewall or proxy server.
Please ensure that your firewall permits outgoing TCP connections to www.phuket-info.com.8080 "
Some days I can connect other times...... zilch
Would I be correct in thinking its a chat server problem that I can do nothing about.
I have made no changes to my firewall or server.
Its been happening ever since the last forum upgrade about 2months ago.

Steve,
Im using IE6 Windows 2000 Pro SP4 and Java Version 1.5.0_03 last updated 21/10/05.
I notice in the Java network settings Java is set to use Browser settings and not Proxy Server. Is this the problem?.
I'm certainly no PC expert, only self taught so a lot of this is over my head.
Thanks for any help you can give me

I really don't understand this.
I have just logged on with no problem at all
But I just know the problem will return just when I want to use the chat forum

It'll be dead now though.

When you say your unable to connect, what happens when you try again. Is it the same, or are you able to connect on the retry, or is it persistently unable to connect.
When it doesnt work, is there anything which is common to the event. Like you have just booted the PC, or same time of the day
In the Java control panel,
"General.Network Settings" - check "Use Browser Settings"
In your browser settings for your current connection, do you have a proxy server defined??
Intermittent connection problems are extremely difficult to track down, its best when they just dont work.

OK Steve, in general,I have been unable to reconnect during the period the PC is turned on.I have not tried a reboot to see if that cures the problem.
One time I couldn't log on ,started to post here my problem, went back to log in to see the error message and I got in
It is usually the same time of day, between 9 and 10pm UK time.
In the Java control panel,Network settings, there is a check against "Use Browser Settings"
In my browser settings for my connection I have the check against "Use proxy Server for my LAN"
Its a problem for sure and as you say, very annoying to track down when intermittent.
But you know you love a problem to solve Steve Thanks for your help so far
