Mozilla Firefox 1.5 released

Firefox 1.5 has now been released.

If you are still using IE for your browsing, I would highly recommend trying Firefox. It is less prone to attack on the net, and has bundles of plugins that make web browsing quicker and easier.

Check out the Forecast Fox plugin for up to date weather forecasts right in your status bar with satellite images too - cool!!

what problems have you had?

I am aware that some pages do not display correctly with FF, but apparently that is because the code is bad and IE does not comply to these standards correctly. At least that is what I have read.

Have downloaded and installed FF 1.5. So far appears that my previous issues have been resolved. Well aware of coding issues and the different browsers, will try it at work in the morning with some serious code.

Cool

I went to the downloads page and hesitated because it offers 1.5 or 1.0.7 which I currently use at home. They way the page is laid out, it's as if the 2 are very similar the only noticeable difference is that the word British is in brackets for 1.0.7

With 1.0.7 I have had some problems, one was not being able to use the "edit" functionality on this forum but I have noticed it is possible as long as I "right-click" and open in a new page or tab, but nothing happens if I just click the link. Also the "simleycons" box on the right of an edit screen is out of proportion and sometimes overlaps the editing area. On the whole there are no major problems that I have comes across and I am quite happy with FF. The only reason I keep IE at home, is because FF won't let me play any Yahoo games !!

OK have now been using FF 1.7 on and off now for about a week. They seem to be getting almost there, but I still have issues with some page rendering, inparticular where tables and forms are involved.

If I get time I'm going try and see where exactly the problem lies. But, I'll admit that I am slowly being won over by FF.

A new, improved Firefox!! Great!! Can hardly wait to go home and upgrade!

I have had the same probelms as Diz. I figured out the right click thing on the non-functioning edit key, but for some reason, most of the time the edit key works fine; it only occasionally requires the right-click, new page treatment.

The problem with the smileys is annoying, but no big deal. With Firefox, the pages come up a litttle faster, and the pics are way faster, and going forward and backward is way, way faster.

There are some sites on which you can't use Firefox, so then I use IE, but given a choice, I choose Firefox every time!!

Alot of web developers, and I've worked with some of the worst, specifically specify optimised for IE, why, because IE is too forgiving in rendering bad code, and also some features are only available on IE

It does concern me alittle that some things didnt work well in previous version of FF, but now work. I hope its not because the FF team is loosening their standards.

Have just this morning encountered some weirdness in FF. In the moderator functions on this board, delete posts function does work, have had to switch back to IE to delete some posts.

Was starting to like FF, just loaded pages so much quicker than IE.

Try this http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=288184
Looks to have solved others issues and lots of interesting stuff to play with!! Try changing the "browser.enable_automatic_image_resizing" value in about:config, might be what you need.

I have also had problems which forced me to create a new profile in FF "firefox.exe -profilemanager" This did sort out the problem (settings lost on every start)

I've also had FF freeze a few times when having multiple tabs open (10+), which may be due to having that many tabs open, but should not be an issue and it was always fine in previous versions.

Nothing to force me back to IE, but nevertheless I think there are some issues with this release that are hopefully rectified soon.

I started using it yesterday. I love that little feature to drag the tabs around. Apart from that and a crash I hit this morning I haven't really noticed anything new. I'm definitely hooked on firefox though.

There are still issues with web software like Documentum's Erooms and the like. I still have to switch back to IE to use them reliably.
