MacWorld SF - Intel Macs Previewed

Hey Guys,
I went to MacWorld SF. It should be called "iPod World" now. Wow, the event really has changed a lot. There used to be things like printers, monitors, peripherals and software there. Now, every other booth is a "colorful" iPod dust cover made in China. Good going guys! Well, we all know that MWSF is a consumer based trade show nowadays.

The cool thing was they showed their MacBook Pro. Pretty sweet little book. This thing is 4 times faster than the fastest G4 PowerBook. That thing COOKS. They also have an iMac with an "Intel Inside" (Dual Core) that is 2X faster than the previous G5 iMac. Would not mind having one around the house.

The bad news is that the software for these new Intel rigs is scarce. Most apps should be able to port easily, but that will take some time to dish up. Even Apple's own ProApps won't be ready until March. We'll see what happens....

Think I will hold off on buying anything until April when NAB (Large Broadcasters Convention) happens in Vegas.

Once these are out I am looking forward to seeing who hacks windows and linux on there in a tri boot setup.. The hardware is always superb but I never have been a cult of mac type person..

As I understand it the BIOS will still not let a 8086 linux or 'doze install easily but you just know some uber geek will have that happening really fast..

As I said in a previous post I am on a total hw purchase freeze until longhorn is out.. My HTPC (media PC that controls the home theater) just got a MCE2005 install done but only tweaking even though I wanted a new GFX card..

They used to use IBM chips.

I do not think that this move to Intel chips is the right way to go, or that it has been done correctly.

If the new Apple computers were cheaper, then fine, but the prices on the new units are not particularly any less expensive.

Intel are not a very customer friendly supplier, letting the buyer sort out any problems with its processors, and speaking to people who have used new Intel powered Apples (was in Apple dealer on Saturday) they did not have anything complimentary to say about the new machines.

Thank God my 17" PowerBook G4 will satisfy my computing needs for a few years yet - just wish the battery lasted longer!

I remember trading in my Apple IIc for a brand new PC junior with the chicklet keyboard. I now have more muscle in my PDA than NASA used to put Armstrong on the moon. Christmas this year looked like the CES with all the Ipods, Xbox, cell phones etc. etc. etc.

Thank god I found this forum. Shame to waste all that computing power just on porn.
