Buying PC/Parts in Phuket

To the guys that live here, where is the best place to shop for a PC or parts to put one together in Phuket?

I have my laptop, but now need something far more powerful to run multiple VMWare sessions (2/3 hard disks, 2 GB RAM, large monitor etc)

Was also thinking about paying a trip to Singapore, but was not sure if the parts are available and well priced here in Phuket

What do you recommend?

Simon is a good bet (in fact I met him via simple computers long before I was on here).. Theres another very fair guiy called Dave who comes round to your house and delivers and drops off..

Used to be able to order anything from Patip via Pantipprice.com.. They have moved web address but made for cheap mail order down from BKK..

Under Big C are some OK computer guys who can build to spec and also replace bad parts (I have lost motherboards, ram, hard disks, everything) that happen so much here due presumably to bad power..

A few guys in Phuket town also.. all in all its not tough to sort out and you really dont need to do Sing to get what you need..

How do you get hold of either of those guys? I'm in need of a simple monitor to get by for now. Preferably just want to rent one for a month.

I bought a new comp from PowerBuy in Central only 2 months ago...monitor is f##ked already. Of course it's under guarantee but first they have to send it to Head Office in Bangkok then it gets sent to the manufacturer...so I can kiss goodbye to it for about a month they say

Tried that comp shop in basement of BigC...annoying thing was they don't sell monitors but had about 50 of them stacked up with Job numbers on them that they are repairing!

The ones I use are Mr.COM on the short cut road off the bypass road - (From patong turn right at Thai Naan restaurant and the left at the next lights (Austrian Consulate) and at the next lights it's on your left can't miss it) the other ones I use are Bus computers in Big C basement, X-Net and Wattana computers on Phang Nga road in town, just discovered a reasonable place on Thep Kasatri road just past the Chrysler building called IT Life, they are a bit cheaper than town for HP/Compaq stuff but the previously mentiioned are pretty good for spare parts.

As an aside Supercheap!!! also sells computer parts a lot cheaper than any where else.

BTW Dave advertises in the Gazette as "English Computer Guy"
