email crashed, now moving to Thunderbird

I have been using Eudora for years and in various versions, but now it looks like my index is corrupt and it cant rebuild it and I cant cancel it to retrieve other info as it hangs shortly after. Argh.

I will give Mozilla Thunderbird a try now, just installed v1.5 and setting it up now.

What is your experience with Thunderbird?

no rules and no export function. With multiple domains and accounts a lot of trouble with time out connections.

In the end I stay with that strange company from redmond

I will give Thunderbird a try, otherwise I may festch the latest version of Eudora.

Outlook / Outlook Express is way to vulnerable, has been so many viruses that used bugs in Outlook and thats the main reason I dont want to use it.

I hear that Mozilla Firefox is quite a good browser. Got the bugs sorted now.

Ever tried Netscape?

Nicke, have you looked at the Opera mail client?

I've just started using it...it's fully compatible with gmail, so can display threaded conversations (hoorah!!!). It comes as part of the Opera browser, which is no bad thing either. I quite like it as a compliment to Firefox when having problems with page rendering rather than switching to IE.

Supports multiple mail accounts, fully skin-able, but does not as far as I can tell support exporting mail, although I'm not worried as I leave a copy of messages on two separate web based mail clients.

I also like the fact that it separately displays all attachments (docs/archives/media/images) so they can be easily found without finding a particular message. Not sure if other clients do this, but nice touch anyway.

I'm not using Thunderbird myself, but one of my hash friends is using the portable version of it, see http://portableapps.com/apps/interne...le_thunderbird.
By using that you can have all your emails on USB stick and use it with any computer you meet on your way

I use SquirrelMail myself, it is web based email on my server (swampthing.dk), it's not fancy as Outlook, very simple interface that only loads images and things in emails that I want to load, and that helps protect me from bugs and these kinds of nasty Outlook things.
