Xbox 360! Should I????
I think the title explains it all but as I know the range of knowledge and general helpfullness of BM's, should I buy one?
It will mean £300 out of the Singha fund, but that can be made up by over-time or work at a care home! Then there is the question of realiability, and the price of the games!
Does anyone in los know if games are available on the street stalls yet? As that will be a factor!
This question has been bugging me for a week now!
Then the is the 'HD-TV' question too! Do I need one to appreciate the full quality of the console!
God Damn, the rep of posters should be re-activated as that would give me something to do!

At the moment no mod chip and no copied games..
I am waiting for a mod chip before plonking down for one.. PS3 looks even better on paper and I suspect it may keep better developer support but its delay is a real kick in the nuts to the whole industry.. Expect a lot of game developers to miss earnings targets this year becuase of that..

I see computer games / console games as an investment.
Buy a realy nice game, can keep you busy for several weekends which means no boozing back home. So in theory you save money from buying fun games.

Are you sure (have a link) as I looked about 2 weeks ago and there was a fake mod chip video being spread around but it was hoax..
Will have another look..

Yeah the video was hoaxed.. They put a plain CDR white label on a legit disc and pretended they were disc copying and had coded a boot loader mod..
Will have a nother hunt as a few of the sites list all the gossip like this..

I dont bother with game consoles, for the price they are selling those new ones for I can buy 10 PC games. OK its not quite the same, but its good enough with a good video card and a 21" CRT screen.

For the first time in a long while though these next gen machines will really leapfrog pc gaming.. Need a HiDef TV to really appreciate it though.. Some of the HiDef video I have downloaded and put up on the projector at 720p were pretty amazing..
Sweat on in game players, shoe scuff marks on the floor, gathering additional dirt through a race in cars.. Just pretty impressive stuff..
I am not too much of a gamer but if there are 1 games I will pick up a system.. Also the price is only a bit more than a high end gamers GFX card !!

I'm a self confessed Nerd -l337 h4xx0r5 4ll th3 w4y - like l337 uber-
So i i'm a puritan when it comes to gaming. Nothing compares to a well set up PC for gaming.
1 Gig of Video Ram SLI! Lets see X-box or PS3 beat that. By the time they have GFX processing like that - PC's will be 3 genrations ahead.

Dont know but I feel the consoles tend to have a wider bredth of titles.. Like I havent seen a PC beat em up in ages, PC boxing like this round 3 they just released..
Plenty of FPS and some platformers, lots of racing titles but not the same spread including sports etc..
I think I read the xbox 360 is running the equivalent of 3 x 3.2ghz processors.. Dedicated hardware works better than the PC approach where some pipelines are more bottlenecked.. Getting a PC synced with a High Def tv is sometimes cumbersome (come on you cant say a PC screen even at 21 inch is anything like a real HiDef setup.. Gaming on the projector at 120 inch screen just kicks ass) though current gen equipment with DVI or HDMI inputs helps a lot..
Right now I think the XBOX 360 titles are graphically better than PC titles I have seen.. Plus its the ease and cost.. What does a 1GB video RAM GFX card cost ?? Add in a high end rig.. All that verses a console ease of use the HiDef movie playback of the PS3 at a fraction of the cost..

agree and disagree. This is the first time I think consoles have made a genuine leap because of the hi-def. Before consoles were displaying some great grafix but all running at 640res and at poor frame rates, which a half decent PC rig pissed on.
The biggest leap is with X-Box live because that's where gaming rules....the multi-player aspect. On-line gaming is currently taking another huge leap with broadband offering good connections that allow multiplayer to flow. Korea has gone insane with 2 million playing Crazy Racing Kart Rider every day (a quarter of S. Korea's population has played!

Hobbsy south korea is not comparable with ANY other country on this earth tho when it comes to gaming. I believe i mentioned this before, but when ragnarok online was released they had to shutdown the servers at daytime because people stopped going to work.

XBox 360 is unning triple core - but doesnt have any applications to use triple thread yet. The OS only uses one thread - atm games only run one thread - so unless your going to muti-task ie burn a DVD - encode a Movie Play BF2 (mordern combat - poor rip off version) and play Mp3s WHICH YOU CAN'T ! LOL triple care is a waste of energy to even produce.
I agree with you about cost - But as I said I'm a puritan, so I'll pay the cost for the SLI cards.
I have already downloaded and run X-Box 360 EMU so I actully can play all those games, edited and patched on PC. So when you get the best - you can still play the rest
A nice LCD Monitor like I have a 20.1" 4ms delay is an awsome monitor, but still can out put to a UXGA Projector. Which I use for movies, Can you download movies with an X-Box 360 before they come to cinema?
hahh but I know that all this UBER Nerd talk has proberly labeled me the biggest geek on the boards.

Seeing as were talking about chips?
Can I get one of these chips in Patong for the PS2? And if so how do you install them, Is it complicated or could I be able to do it myself even though I know F-all about the inside of a games console, Or does it just slot in a memory stick port or something like that?

Yes you can get chips here but personally I would order online and doa little research on the features.. Usually fairly easy for someone with a little technical ability to fit.. I have done a few in the past but now they have solderless ones I think.
I just got a PS2 pre modded with a new laser installed for 6500 baht.. 5500 for PS2 and mod but the lasers burn out on the copy games so its an investment in it lastring a bit longer..

Even solderless chips are a little tricky if you have less than perfect eyesight and don't know much about where to put the mod chip. Best bet is to do it with a friend that is experienced just in case it doesnt work right from the start. The last thing you want is to short something and brick your console. They are easily ordered online and you can get all your homework done on there as well.
These next generation consoles are really something. Too bad when the xbox 360 was released microsoft had barely finished the development kits for it. I think they will just now start developing to use the system to more of its potential. I remember being disappointed when playing the first few titles released with this system. Great hardware, but really no software for it at the time.
PCs are great, but for less than the cost of a flashy video card you can have one of these video game consoles with nearly the same power.

I agree with Magnus that the consoles will get better as they learn to get things optimized for the hardware but some of the titles I am seeing look easily good enough to make the leap of faith..
I dont have one (yet) but I can see one in my future.. Also linking it up into nodes for audio and media distribution may appeal to many..

Currently its an option thats a work in procress and you need to run MCE I understand on one box on the network (I run MCE on my media PC in the home theater anyway)..
I have been working on my media network lately with meedio and dont really want another PC node in the bedroom.. Thinking a SlimMP3 node or going a bit | |
