Google's Notebook service, which allows web users to store and compile links to web sites, favourites, and snippets of information while browsing, went live last week as a beta. ...Notebook allows access the clippings file via the status bar of the users browser. Text and images can be saved, along with the domain from which they came. Users will need a Google or Gmail username and password; and Firefox users will need to download version 1.5 of the browser.

Will be very useful I think, as you can access your information/notes from anywhere.

Privacy?
The privacy implications of what Google is up to most of the time are mind boggling. If I'm not mistaken, they keep on file every email you send through G-Mail. They also keep track of your browsing habits. Not good.

But you do have the right to use or not to use, it is your decision.

I have to admit I'm a touch wary of google. I got rid of the toolbar until recently and don't have any of their other stuff. I think it's a bit too intrusive, like AOL is or Freeserve used to be.

I have the toolbar installed and use it all the time. Now I'm back in Oz, I dont really give a toss who knows where I surf and what I do online. If they have nothing better to do than worry about what I get up to, then I feel sorry for them.
I think the world has basically lost the plot with all the worry about privacy, if any agency whats to know about you, they will find out, wether you have an online presence or not.

I mean intrusive in the way it bogs down your computer. When I was on dialup it was painful with the google toolbar installed.

Really, when I was using dailup in Patong I didnt notice any difference, but then again not much of anything was coming down the line at any reasonable speed. You did disable the send back to google about your browsing??

The google desktop serach absolutley killed and slowed down my desktop.. I had it on 2 installs and both times it turned to molasses..
I am in the 'dont care' side of privacy debate but then I dont use thier email service or let it search my desktop.. I do love thier news and 'earth' features and SW though.. In fact google earth and nasa worldwind are right up there for the best use of online tech ever IMHO.. Love em..
I heard google is playing with a google linux pivately.. Now if someone could get a real desktop linux looking slick and behaving nice with a fully abstracted GUI layer on *nix inside the vista life cycle then MS should sweat.. Why linux has no OSX 10 like desktop ability yet is a crying shame really..

Erm, yeah, course I did
File sharing, P2P, apps seem to do the same thing. That's why I ditched Morpheus too.
