Dell Xps M1210

Anyone using this notebook?

I want something light, small n portable.

Am thinking of getting a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ34GP/B ( Sony Style Malaysia - Vaio) or a DELL.

Of course the DELL is cheaper at MYR 3,999 onwards and the Sony is MYR 6,988 onwards

Which one would you buy?

Thank you, cheers.

I would buy nothing until you know how well it runs the Aero interface of vista..

Vista is well worth the upgrade and having it run like a hog for the life of the machine will be a real PITA..

Otherwise I am a Sony fanboy, they make good stuff..

Hi Nautilus...

I'm afraid, I've not had (or used) my new XPS1210 enough, to give a "qualified" asessment, of its quality.

I purchased it in early December, as a second (traveler), to my desktop PC. (also a dell XPS).

I copied vital info, from my desktop (via data CD), and installed them in the new notebook. Piece of cake.

I haven't even plugged a cable modem into it, to try internet browsing. I have however, used the (wifi) function...(apparently a neighbor has a wifi setup). It performs quite well, in this mode. And, seems to be very nearly as FAST, as my desktop...utilizing cable modem.

I ordered no special options, other than the "heavy duty" battery.

Dell, of course, assured me that the system would be fully compatible with VISTA. A free upgrade, sometime in latter February.

I do, (so far) really like the size of the 1210. It will fit nicely, into my shoulder bag, for carry on travel. As it is only 12" (diagonally), the text is quite small. I had to (upgrade) 5555, to a stronger pair of reading glasses.

I'm leaving for Thailand, in two days. I'll be using the notepad there...And, if I have any problems, I'll let you know.

Good luck,

Pablo

Thank you LivinLOS and pablo for the replies. Yeah do let me know if anything goes wrong with the Dell, always a worry for me when notebooks are so small. Especially the heat issues, causing random shutdown like Macbooks.

Internet connection over here is still very bad. The ISP says it will take up to weeks to get everything back to normal.

Anyway back to the 2 notebooks. I cant test out the DELL, but i did try the Sony just at Sony Wings KLCC. Very nice and light, screen is 13", have to get used to that. Fonts are so small! ! ! !

I just need one for holiday travels, check mails, upload pictures and just surf the net to keep in touch with the world.

ATMwalking, i aint asking bout the Macbook. I did start a thread over here, but after lots of searching online forums and asking around, i decided against it. The 3 years warranty Apple is charging is ridiculous, close to MYR 1000 !!!! I also have no experience on Mac OS.

I understand you are going the windows way and not trying to hijack the thread. But after traveling around the world with every small laptop, I am by far happiest with my little macbook. BTW, all heat issues have been fixed. FYI, MacOS is dead easy to get onto. Just in case you can always run windows on it as well. Just a suggestion to consider that alternatives.

Oo, so it has been fixed, thank you for that information.

Yeah i know XP can be installed and run on Macbooks. Also heard that new Mac OS will be ready by next April or so.

Macbook basic model is RM 4,399 onwards.

Agree because there is no point. Run both and you are golden.
