Does anyone know if I can replace my current memory which is: PC2100 DDR266 184pin non-ECC (the motherboard runs at 133MHz) with PC2700 DDR333?

"PC" RAM comes in 2 configurations PC### (3-digits) and PC#### (4-digits). The 3-digit versions (PC100 and PC133) are SDRAM and the 4-digit are DDR or DDR2. Few motherboards can accommodate both.
The 3 or 4 digits refer to the speed of the memory. The higher the number the faster the speed. PC2100 chips sets are rated at 266MHz and PC2700 are rated at 333MHz. When you use RAM rated for a higher speed you just won't take full advantage of the chip sets speed capability. A PC2700 module installed in a PC with a 266 MHz FSB will perform like a PC2100.

Thats why I ask him to tell us what his mobo is, so we can check for him. No sense is giving tech jargon to someone that obviously doesnt understand it.

If you current system is correctly configured with PC2100 you can replace with PC2700 - No problem!
Most sellers of memory modules will have a configurator on their web site which will confirm this. One would be Memory upgrades, graphics cards, flash media, and usb storage at Crucial.com (crucial.com)

You are right some wouldn't understand the details of my reply, but the same would certainly not know what mobo that have.

Thanks for the replies.
I've no idea what my motherboard is. I've tried Google and each site gives a different answer to memory type/number of slots on my PC(an Advent 3215, about 3 years old). I don't mind putting 2700 in as long as it will do no harm. Windows "System information" doesn't give the board type and Belarc Advisor only tells me the board is an SiS-651 running at 133MHz.

SIS651 is the memory controller.
PC#### memory is backward compatible. Maximum speed is the only significant difference in the specifications. Many manufacturers has stopped making PC2100 memory and will sell you 2700 or better. Again, adding better or higher speed memory does not gain you any additional speed, other than what is gained from the additional memory.
Here is a link to the page in Crusual web site that addresses your computer/motherboard:
Computer memory upgrades for Elite Group (ECS) L4S5MG3 Motherboard from Crucial.com
