What is SMPT?
I cannot send e-mails on my usual address from my computer at home. This is the message that came up. I'm sure it is easy to fix, but how do I do it?
Here is the message:
An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'pop.wanadoo.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.wanadoo.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554 Please check your SMTP server is set to smtp.orange.co.uk
Thanks in advance.

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. It is your outbound mail server.
Give your ISP a call could be a problem on their end.
Can't believe I beat Lil to the post

You could also try to change your outgoing mail server (SMTP) to smtp.orange.co.uk as the message said, maybe they discontinued your current SMTP server.

Some gateways does not allow the use of your own mail server for outgoing mail. Looking at your post looks like you have an email address at wanadoo.co.uk and your incoming mail is set to pop.wan.... and outgoing to smtp.wan......
I have the same problem when I visit family in Denmark. I have to change my outgoing mail setting to smtp.mail.dk, even though I have no relationship with mail.dk, other than using it as a local gateway.
If you are using Outlook, then go to Tools -> E-mail Accounts. Locate the account in question and edit the properties for outgoing mail. to smtp.orange.co.uk, but make a note of the old setting as you may need to set it back.
SMTP means Simple Mail Transfer Protocol.

On my lappy (which can move between providers) I just use a gmail outbound.. Saves having to reconfigure each time its on a new network.

Yes, nobody want spammers to use their SMPT server so usually only users at the own network is allowed to use the server.
If you use another ISP in denmark you can most of the time use their SMTP server. Some ISPs have restrictions at that too, e.g. the sender's email is not their email adresses. (different domain or your US email domain)
Another solution is to have a PW or pop mail (receive mail) before able to send as an authentication. The latter is the method I use at Phuket-Info.com server. So I can receive and send emails from anywhere in the world without troble.

Yep, by far the best way when in Thailand.
So where is Sirgezza? In thailand or wales? That could be a factor.

Depending on your email software, but usually Account settings or similar, where you enter your name, pop server etc.

That's why I did the old "call your ISP". Hard to trouble shoot/ fix this stuff via a forum.
