Restart in Safe Mode and scan.
If all fails, i will just wipe everything and do a fresh install.

Suspect you may have to start again. You could clear all the crud off your machine. Go to tools in explorer and internet options. You can then delete stuff. It says delete browsing history but if you click on it there is an option to get rid of temp internet files. If you've been downloading stuff that will be clogged up. Good luck.

If you have a virus try using AVG Free at AVG Free Advisor - Free antivirus and anti-spyware downloads
You will 1st have to uninstall any other programs 1st and then download the AVG Free.
Had big probs with virus a while ago and the AVG one was the only one that detected the ones that caused the problems.
Other thing to look at if that does not fix it could be the power pack at the top of your computer.
Had problems opening pages, got a good 2nd hand one and fixed problem straight away.

It does appear you have picked up either a virus, or plenty of spy/ad ware from your browsing Jonny.
First of all, load your web browser, go to Tools- Internet options- Temporary internet files, and clear the cache of all cookies and files.
If its a virus, and you have run McAfee to check, then its not picked it up.
Have you downloaded virus updates recently? If not, download the latest from McAfee and run it again.
Which spy, and ad ware programmes have you got?
I have found spy-bot and ad-aware (both free from Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com) find tracking cookies and ad ware if I have been looking somewhere I shouldn't have been
I would download and try to run both of these also.
Good luck

I'd follow Gollums advice - choose safemode with networking, you may want first to right click on the TaskBar, select Task Manager, select processes and see if anything is using a lot(most) of CPU or memory and try killing that process.
Once you're fixed get youself a good anti-virus program (I use Avast - it's free!) and some anti-spyware programs like Spybot, Spyware Blaster and Ad-aware (I use all three) and make sure they're updated regularly.
Good luck!

I've had the same sort of problems with my desktop over the years. The task manager is a good place to start, see what is using up all the CPU. I've always managed to fix it one way or another, usually by running different antivirus program scans until one finally works. But another thing I sometimes will do is to delete all the old crappy programs I never use anymore. Kind of like in the movies, when the plane starts loosing altitude and they are throwing all the cargo out to lighten the load!
I don't use my desktop a lot, though, since I got a laptop, which is sitting in my lap right now. You should get a laptop, Jonny! Then you have backup if your desktop bogs down. No more cold turkey!!

I use hitman pro to get rid of spyware and add ons. It is free. It also combines different "anti" programs.

Did the guys who worked on your PC say what the problem was Jonny?
Be sure to run those spyware progs after looking at xxxx. Its amazing how much crap your PC collects over a short amunt of time. Glad to hear things are OK now.

55555 Sometimes it pays to be dumb about things. Somebody usually sorts things out. Looks like the guys at work will be doing your PC spring cleaning now LOL

Another option is to run
Control panel => Install or remove programs or window components
Remove suspicious add-ons (Spyware, bots)
Many programs you get from surfing in "bad neighbourhoods" who install themself can be removed there.
