Windoze Stealth Updates

It seems the rumors are true: M$ is updating selected files (their selection, theng you) without the PC owner's knowledge or permission.

To IT types this is a big issue. For one thing, updates invariably break something else down the line so must be planned carefully.

Well no-one is buying Vista, what better way to get them to upgrade than a stealth bomb to **** up their machines.

Seriously WTF they are playing at here. Was reading a comment earlier from someone with the theory that they've found a bug/exploit so devestating that they've had to take this action.

I wonder what the Chinese make of this too - they famously demanded the windows source code to check for NSA/CIA backdoors and now they're getting stealth code being inserted.

Sadly, all too true. Seems M$ could not have screwed this one up worse.

Yet another article on just this topic. When C|Net comes down thusly it is clear even The Faithful are experiencing doubts.

It also turns out that the stealth upgrade is-- as prognosticated on this very thread-- costing companies money.

None of which, of course, will affect the $70 billion or so M$ will rake in this year.
