Should I bring my laptop?

Hi all,

I get on the plane tomorrow morning and I have not planned on bringing my computer. But! I want to be able to read the forums while I am there.
This is a great resource and a lot of fun to read the opinions.

Questions:

1) Is it safe to bring a laptop or is it likely to get stolen?
2) What are the local connection speeds (DSL/dial up 56K/WiFi/?)?
3) How easy is it to get "public" access to web browser and the forums?

i took my lap top last time with a flash card reader to download photos, never used it apart from that.
To read the forums I used to go to Club Rio where the internet is free (but limited to twenty minutes if other people are waiting), or got to internet cafe for 1 baht per minute.
Free wifi connections are available in MTB and Club Rio - do a search on this forum there may be more!

Thanks!

I think I will use the internet cafe so I don't have to lug it around.
I suspect that I will find more interesting things to do at MTB than bang on the keyboard

Internet speeds in Patong are shockingly SLOW!!!!

Just did a speed check on my 1024Mb ADSL line, how they can get away with selling that here is beyond me, and got 8.26 KB/sec

I have lucked out here at the Sandy Spring, Pattaya... Found a very low signal unsecured wireless conn. Still labelled with router's default name, so probably an amateur connection nearby. Occasionally it flakes out and I have to reconnect, 54Mb/s; not vry fast but okay for free.

If you come to the Sandy Spring (Soi 13, close to the Dynsty Inn and AA Hotel) try and get room facing the sea on a lowish floor (I'm on 6), should b able to connect.

I'll have a look around the C&N for similar, but not hopeful. Can I sit at MTB during the day or is the system secured 'out of hours'?

Yes mate it really does. If they sold package as 128 then when, and on the VERY rare occassion when you exceed that, I would be extremely happy. What I would give for a bottle of Bundy Ginger Beer at the moment to make a dark and stormy.

Oh well will all be solved soon, back to steak and kidney tomorrow night.
