|
I have come across this thread as i want to bring my laptop with me when i travel but i am very illiterate when it comes to computers and the internet.
My laptop is wireless and have a wireless network connection here at home with bigpond but when i come to Thailand is it a matter of just turning on the laptop? Seems like a stupid question but i do not know

Turning it on within range of a free wireless hotspot.. And possibly getting a WEP key if they restrict the access to customers.

Firstly enable the 'basic' wireless connection (via Settings | Network Connections) by right clicking it. The description, depending upon laptop, will be something like 'Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link ...'. This will not be the same as your BigPond wireless connection (which is probably called 'Wireless Network Connection 9' or some other number and described as 'Sierra Wireless ...').
When the status changes from 'Disabled' to 'Not Connected', right click it again and select 'View Available Wireless Networks'. Then select your network! As LiL say, you may need a key.
