Anyone want any of these..

Will practically give most of them away (some of the better ones not.. Katoey.info, some of the MP3 and CDDJ ones, etc) the bulk of them for 1 year costs / transfer fees..

Even just rack the lot on Sedo and do your meta data and they will pay for themselves.. (for the lot I would like something tho).. Some catchy ones in there ..

I just cant be bothered with updating thier admin and renew stuff..

How does this work? Do these all belong to you? How do you transfer a domain name from one person to another? I have been messing about with websites for a while now, but not really up to speed with the domain registration side.

I have a lot of server space with my isp, and room for, I think, 999 sub-domains. Just theoretically (I'm not shopping here) how would you transfer a domain name between isp's?

To transfer a domain name to another ISP is just a matter of updating the DNS records for the domain, e.g. pointing to another server.

In your domainname control panel you can usually change ownership, update address/phone numbers etc.

usually you ask for your current registrar to tranfer it to you.. They charge you a fee (usually one year reg) and it adds one year to the domain registration (so essentially is free)..

Then the current registramt gets an email (sent to the domain owner email address) link to agree and when I agree it then moves over.. Its pretty easy.. I have loads of .coms and nets some bought after market some bought and regged myself.. some I had to move to other people.. It gan be worse with .org's as they have to have some faxing done..

I just found another batch of better ones.. I forgot how many of thes damn .info's I had.. These are good ones IMHO..

Depends if you merely change name of domain owner in the control panel or move it to a new registrar.. These are held in bulk accounts of mine so its hard to give any one else full access (MX records CName DNS etc) without allowing access to all my domains..

Registrar movements generally incurr a one year charge

Different registrars have different solutions, with one of the registrars I used in the past it is very easy to assign a new owner to a domain and then it is off your (bulk) account and is instead attached to the new owner account.

Nowadays I use Joker.com, I am not sure how they handle ownership transfers or if they charge a fee, I never did that. I dont bothered to change registrar for my early domains either, and thus still $35/USD year for them.

For Tai Pan I registered a .st (www.taipan.st), since the name was impossible to get under other top level domains, and they charge a bloody 35 EURO/year.

So if you just changed the names, would you have to use the same isp or registrar, or could you change the name in your control panel and then point the domain name to a different server?

What is the cost of just registering a domain? I have a couple of packages that cost pennies, I think £40 a year for hosting, but I've never just registered a domain.

Sorry if these are dumb questions, but it's an interesting subject and my ignorance frustrates me a bit.

The price depends on registrar, but some examples;

GoDaddy.com 8.95 USD/year
Joker.com 12.00 USD/year (Down to 6 USD if you become a reseller or buy in bulk)
Network SOlutions 34.99 USD/year

Soem registrars give discounts if you registers for many years.

Lol, do you think of st as short time? It was the only top level I could find where taipan was available for registration.

Yes, I designed the Taipan website maybe 2 years ago.

That's how I read it yes, shame you could not get '.fl '
