Thumbs up Mozilla Firefox

Is it just me, or does Mozilla Firefox work better with this site than Internet Explorer? Seems faster to me, esp. with the pics. On the downside, the "Ads by Google" column on the right blocks easy acces to some of the smilies that it covers up, but that's no big deal!

The is not an uncommon situation, where anyother browser does a better job with rendering a page than IE. When designing pages you can get away with alot of sloppy code with IE, but will be caught out when using another browser.

I see what you mean! But since I almost never look at the Webcam, it is not a problem for me. The fact that it is much faster jumping around from one page to the next on the site more than makes up for the Webcam size limitation.

I have firefox with adblock+ running (and the autoupdating G filterset) superb...

I tested on Thaivisa and page loads are approx 100% faster (4 -5 secs like this 9 or so with adds turned on)..

Not good news for add supported sites but so much better browsing experience..

I get about the same, except sometimes faster, escpecially when I go back a page or forward a page, which is almost instantly(1 sec or less).

Where do you get adblock+ and the G filterset?

Whilst not an extension, perhaps everyone have it, Google Toolbar, or some other one.

I had been using firefox on Linux, but didn't think until I read this post to throw it on my windows machine here at work.

I think the 52MB of memory that the browser is using at the moment on my machine with only 2 tabs open may be a bit inefficient.

I can't really complain though, its nice to have something different. The tabs are so much more convenient than new windows as well. Now if only more developers tested their sites using multiple browsers.

Must admit I'm was one of those, but now test using IE, netscape and firefox. Its amazing how many coding mishaps are revealed when you use something else other than IE.

Opera 8.50

Its now another free browser (they removed the ad banner and licensing fee) to choose from. http://www.opera.com/ Has tabbed windows like mozilla, and it seems to have the same memory usage as IE.

I'm definitely appreciating firefox so far, and am willing to overlook some of the display issues i have seen with it. Like jaybee said before, it does seem to be faster loading this site.

Browser Comparison

Well I got a little disinterested in my work this afternoon and ran a test amongst the 3 browsers to their impact on my system performance. It came about on another forum as someone jokingly suggested that I open 12 IE windows and 12 Mozilla tabs and compare the memory usage.

30 MB for IE
50 MB for Firefox
78 MB for Opera

I did discover an interesting thing doing this though. Opening a new window with IE using CTRL+N (similar to opening a new tab) was WAY different from opening a new instance of IE. I used CNN.com as the test site, and these three were also hogging up the CPUs on my machine, firefox using 40% opera using 40%, and IE using about 20%.

However, minimizing firefox (not very useful like that though)freed up a bunch of memory, although it was still eating up CPU cycles.

I was suprised by the results so I'm glad I did try it. If I had opened up new instances of IE individually, as I typically would do, then I hit 416MB.

Lessons learned:
- When using IE, CTRL+N is definitely your friend.
- Firefox is still my first choice because I just plain prefer tabs.
- Having 36 windows of cnn.com open on your desktop does not help to make it look like you are working when people stop by your office.

Also when using IE, using CTRL_N to open a new window, inherits any proxy logins you have, whereas opening a new IE window doesnt.

This may be slightly off the subject, but how come when I log in to Phuket-Info.com, every single time I do it, I have to put in my password? On every other site I can think of, I can check the "Remember password" box and not have to punch in the password on the next log-in.

With IE, I have to input not only the password, but also my user name. At least with firefox, it remembers my user name, but still does not remember the password. I do check the "remember me" box, but it always seem to forget me!

Red face Still No Luck!

I'm on my home computer now! Checked the cookie settings. The setting for www.phuket-info.com was "always allow," so it should work, right. But it doesn't. I wonder if anyone else has this problem or is it just me???
