Buying a condo

I need some advice. I can retire in three years but have some extra money now. I was thinking of buying a condo. I could stay there when I go on vacation and eventually live there, at least part of the year. Would my stuff be safe if I leave the place for six months at a time? Do they have homeowners insurance in Thailand? Anyone with a similar experience?

Rex

I think I would rent a furnished apartment there first which you could find at a reasonable cost. That way you could see if you really like the place and find out which area you would want to be in to buy.Not to much worry that way and if it works for you then maybe you commit to buying something....

Thanks for the advice. You're right, of course, so long as the price of property in Thailand doesn't rise dramatically in the next few years.

Yes...there is homeowners insurance.....there are proper insurance companies here...try a web search....you may find policies prohibit you from leaving it alone for 6 months....best thing to do is ask they professionals....forum advice can often be flawed.

No Shite, Insure for Real Property

The questions was where and whom not if, Thank you!
Now why don't you pm mikegb and FFF as they both have gone into real estate in Patong...Last year I was looking at Apts and Condos with a real estate agent/lawyer and learned that, as in others, insurance is a must for purchases and there are the standard renters/homeowners policys. I noted that most sales offices have outlets for insurance. Get a few from MikeGB or FFF as to whats reliable.....Had ( note past tense) been in business for myself in America for 30 plus years I always say that you never know until you make a claim but go with private references for the one you owe for the property, as they want their asset protected!

Protect them assets!
