Tuk tuks - what's the story?

TUK TUK's... I avoid them like the plague, unless.... 1. I cant remember getting in to the fehker or.... 2. Very heavy rain.
What is it that turns a normally placid Thai into a potential maniac on entering the red can ???

I cannot stand them at all.

the reason you would want a taxi (albeit tuk tuk or taxi) is that you want a nice comfortable ride to the place you are going.

Now I maybe wrong here, but there seems to be a competition as to who can "gary boy" up the Tuk tuk the most, by adding a stupidly loud exhaust, flashing neons and a sound system that is quite simply pathetic with some annoying music pounding out.

There are proper taxi's that I take when I am going to or from Patong for 300 baht the same price as a Tuk tuk (sometimes tuk tuks are more) to get to Central/Big C etc.

And why is it, they all see you say NO to the first TUK TUK then they proceed to ask you all the way up the line. I generally have bets with my friend seeing how many times we can get asked if we want a Tuk Tuk.

Stay away from them, and pray they make no money and get a job that doesnt piss everyone and his dog off.
