Thai Medical Insurance
Ok
a question for the BM's with TG/TW before I take vacation.
I am thinking of taking out medical insurance for my tilak...... ok you all stopped laughing yet ?
Seriously, as an expat i'm fully covered and have derived great benefit out of it over the years and the thought of my tirak working on the farm sends a wave of concern over me. I got shivers down my back the first time she told me she was picking corn ! Also she rides the motorbike a lot and thats a concern too.
Is there a reasonable priced Thai Insurer/s for Thai Medical cover ?
TIA

Yes I'm serious.
I looked at BUPA Thailand they have 4 plans 'from 10 baht a day' . Also there are places like aiathailand.com.
I am going to ask for a quote from BUPA.
Can I ask what did you do and how much ?
Thanks

Insurance companies
There are several good companies which will give her insurance. The one I am with is A.I.A. (American International Assurers) and they do an accident cover policy for 4500 Baht per year. They are international and their cover is worldwide. They are also linked to most Thai hospitals.
Another one is:
Generali Insurance(Thailand) Co.,ltd. <www.generalithailand.com>
They too do deals with the Thai hospitals.

There are also pension like insurance plans you can buy. They run at about B50k a year, and covers the girl for all insurance, and also a healthy financial return in the future, but you must keep up the payments every year, otherwise all is lost.

I use BUPA myself, the price depends on age and if you want out patient or not. (I skipped that, but have SOS/Emergency).
I pay 11,xxx something per year.
But you are not allowed to do dangerous sports

Aia
spoke to a lot of expats in udon, they seem split between General and AIA.
I think if its connected with good international hospitals it just comes down to cost.
my gf pays about 1000 bt a month through her employer scheme for health cover AIA, but that covers her mother, brother, father and herself.
she also contributes to a "death cover policy" in which contributions change monthly due to the number of "payouts" for members in the scheme who die that month.
I think the payout figures is 180,000 per person covered.
not much to some farangs but common sense for thai village people.

just paid 25000 baht for appendix surgery and 3 days hospital for my g/f. With some additional money for afterchecks this added to 40000 baht. So insurance is sometimes not a bad idea.
Are there any age restrictions ?

I was with BUPA but I find it Expensive for what you get, although there is no problem with the cover itself. I am now going with Thai health Insurance (THI) This was set up by EX-BUPA employees, and are generally 15-20% cheaper than BUPA as well as it covers you up untill the age of 70! (as long as you took out insurance before you were 66).
Anyway here is a link to the prices on my website - its a DOC - I am not a salesmen but I can get these prices through a friend of mine. If interested drop me a PM. There are several types of Insurance and all at good rates, I think.
