utilities
Ok Phuket residents.
I am looking into a purchasing a 3 bed, 2 bath house. nothing over the top, no pool (yet) perhaps 150-175 sq meters. How much do utilities cost?? I'm trying to work on my "master plan", and need to figure houshold costs.
Thanks

My Electricity bill came in at 4,000+ baht this mont, thats for a shophouse with 1 air-con, 1 large fan, 2 ceiliing fans running at say 70%, 9 halogen 50W's in teh bedroom say on for 4 hours a day and around 25 low wattage energy saving bulbs on around 65% of the time.
And a PC I have never ever switched off.
I personally think its expensive, certainly more than I paid in teh UK.

Our electric bill at the house was never more B1k, we had no air con (I dont like it). Water bill was always less than B100. Garbage cant remember, but cheap as.

The electric at our office is about 4k as well, so its probably not too far off.
Water I think we pay 300 baht or something (maybe 700) and rubbish, I dont really know -My girlfriend seems to think we pay someone for it but Im not sure how much (5 baht a day ?).

My old normal sized house averaged about 2 - 3k per month electric and 200 or so water (of course drinking water is bottled and no idea what I spent)..
Current house is mad.. Costs me more than my old rent did in some months..

I have talked to several "renters" who are paying 2000b for utilities for just one room, now perhaps the owner is gouging them, I have no idea. But here in "sunny" California, if I conserve and be a good little boy, I can get by on $50 for electricity. Now bear in mind, that is just for one person and a dog, and she keeps leaving the lights on.
So far, the bills are under 4000b which I guess is ok, no heating.
One thing that may bear looking into is hot water heaters, are the folks with large bill using 1 main heater, or are they all single units. And AC, are they with single units or central AC.
Oh well, sounds like at this point to budget 4000b to be safe.
thanks so far

Well out here there is little thought given to energy efficient homes.. If building my own villa to live in long term I would be spending those little extras on solar water heating and the most efficient AC setups..
Here AC is nearly never central always just intalled units.. Water can be often done at point of use (little electrics heaters at each point) in cheaper builds or central boilers in larger more expensive ones..
Often landlords mark up these items as extra profit..
