local knowlodge

Hi all

I've been to Patong many times, but always lived near Bangla - walking distance. This time I will stay at Nanai road. I have heard some different opions about a "soi" going from Rath-U-tit near Jungle Ceylon construction site. Is it true or not, i.e. is there a shortcut between R.U.T and Nanai?

TIA

PS
The road down the side of OTOP leads to a dirt track (bear left) that connects with JungCeylon/Banzaan market, then your back on a road that connects to Nanai.

If you carried straight on the dirt track it would then lead to the hospital.

It is tricky to navigate after rain, but ok otherwise. It goes past as shanty town that hosts what looks like the roughest pub in the world, but is probably ok really, I`ve just not dared to go in yet.

There used to be a shortcut from the end of Nanai 2 where Peter Pan Hotel is along the dirt track and up past the sewage works
It joins Rat u Thit Rd opposite the Holiday Inn.
Always had to hold your breath from the foul burning fires and stinking pond and I was never happy returning at night down that road.
As always, this shortcut may have gone now.

thanks for the input everyone for info from the end of San Sabai it is possible to cross the dirt road to the market, but only on foot, as it is close, and one is not able to go by via motobike.

Anyway this was late October.may have changed now.

The Nanai 2 through to Rat U Thit got blocked a long time back.. I tried one drunken night to ride through what developed into about 2 ft of stinking water.. Not smart !!!

The Connection that goes from OTOP to the 'new' food market does still work I think (past the worlds rougest pub LOL.. I also have never been in there but had to go to the shanty town at 4am once).. and from that can connect to the Rd that used to run shark to Nanai..

The Road leading through from new food market to Sansabai goes over private land.. They object and put some barbed wire accross it.. I suspect its OK by foot but was not possible by bike last time I looked..

Thats how I remember the connections.. They are of course subject to change quickly as they are unofficial lanes..

I used this on foot in daylight during August, just about navigable by bike, wouldn't want to try it in the dark or when raining

Wandered up the road to the shanty and was turned back to the correct route by an old lady - she guessed I was looking for Nanai and not their place

Cool Passable on foot only

The landowner has built a small one foot high wall to prevent motor bike access into Sans Sabai but you can still walk through.Just park at the end of the road near the food market or in the empty Junceylon car park.
