Patong or NaiHarn/Rawai
So where do all you expacts stay? do you stay in patong or do you find that to much and move to a quieter spot like rawai or even kata?
will be coming over next month and lookin to make the move permanent. obviously will be starting in patong for a couple of weeks. just interested in the pro's/con's of each place.
Cheers.

Too personal a question.. Theres Paton Expats.. Theres Rawai expats..
I myself like being able to just step into the madness and have a 6am nigth anytime with no hassle.. Then again you get a lot more for your money in Rawai or Kathu etc than you do here..
Just personal choice as to what scene suits your lifestyle more.. I thought when coming here with the wife I would not live in Patong but it would be a stepping stone to elsewhere.. Now I am very happy here but do try to moderate my Bangla activities to a couple of nights per week (I said try !!)..

One of my good mates (Bar Stool Boris, russian of course) has moved out to Rawai and likes it a lot.. Less touristy crowd but also a fair bit older crowd.. I mocking call it 'Gods waiting room' over there !!!

depending on how much your lookign to spend. id try and get a decent small house in rawai for 10,000baht/mo and then a small, clean room in patong for 4-5000baht.mo

Ive been pondering the very same questions...in Feb I will be In Karon and thought about any problems with getting to Patong in the evening. Thats only going to be a couple of months though to give me an idea on longer term needs/wants.
Im someone who would rather have a really nice house than go out several times a week. Twice a week night out would be my max most likely..im only 27 however and dont want to end up somewhere that feels like a retirement home either. A matter of having a good look round when I get there I guess!

its high season but look around nanai, nanai2 sidestreets etc
Theres a big sign advertising a 2 bed house down on Nanai (south end just after hasip pee Rd southern end).. Will look for number..
Buddy just took over a 2 bed house needs a lick of paint and had only the most basic roughest of furniture but is 10k per month.. For a long term deal thats fine as he will now make it like he wants it..

House with pool for 15k will be tough !!!!
Dont think thats doable.. House with pool would be 25k or so even outside of Patong..
