Career or career,

I worked for AstraZeneca, a pharmaceutical company and took care of the storage system, based on Oracle/VMS and mobile wireless terminals and standard PC desktops for the department.

I was 28 when I moved to Thailand.

So it has been 6.5 years now.

Ah yes, i remember you said something about Astra Zeneca when i was down at MTB, but due to loud music, too much alcohol it was all a blur. I kinda assumed that you were working with the actual meds to afford to live your dream.

28!!!! i only have 4 more years to achieve that!

Nicke, how long did you do that for before you decided to move to LOS? What made you decide?

Before making the move to Phuket, I was in the second career of my life in IT. Was working for a large international in out sourcing. Have now returned to basically the same position, and bored shitless, but its only a temporary gig.

Cool No regrets

1: Royal Marines (23 years) pensioned off at 40 years old.

2.Retired at 40 and moved straight here to become a dive guide. After a few years I bought my local pub

3.8 Years so far and still enjoy the life style.

the military and civil servants(police, fire) in the states have good pensions.
only thing is after 20 years its only 50%, usually have to do more to get close to 75-80

my brother-in-law is set. hes colonel of massachusetts state police, #1 guy. i would guess he makes about 150k usd/yr. he has 25 years in, he can retire at 80% of that with full medical. also being in the position hes in, he will probably make double that in the private sector while collecting that huge pension.

20 years grafting over a hot keyboard in Silicon Valley, 2 years in Ko Phangan and loving it. keeping busy, built a house, wrote a book, "Building Thai Land" and teaching computer programming and internet business, http://www.programminginparadise.com.

my tips for success as an expat: keep busy and make enough money to cover your cost of living, don't hang out in bars every day (unless you own one), find a good woman (or man if your into that kind of thing) and keep her, enjoy thailand and avoid ex-pat forums (just joking about the last one!)

"No Australian and New Zealand citizens will not be eligible for a departing Australia superannuation payment (DASP), even if they were the holder of an eligible temporary resident visa. This is because New Zealand and Australian citizens may still have retiring rights in Australia (and access to the Age Pension), regardless of whether or not they exercise that right."
Am i pissed off i have been putting my own money it to super when i would have been better off investing in shares. So there goes my dream for now, i need to win lotto or find a rich Thai women.

I'm not 100% sure but l think that only changed about 3/4 years ago.....l remember in the early 90's l was thinking about moving to the UK and establishing myself with my super savings.....at that stage you could get access to it if you advised them that you had intentions of moving o/s for good (can't remeber what proof you needed to show them)......now that the government are realising that pension payments are soaring as the population matures, they have tightened up the laws in regards to accessing your Superannuation.....so that people do not blow their Super and come back with their hand held out.

This was introduced in the late 90's. I dont think it is a bad thing, as it does protect you from blowing your lump sum, well thats assuming that it is still there when your eligible to withdraw it.

I believe that Singapore's policy is that if you are leaving the country permanently, you can withdraw your super, but if you do return, you must repay the entire amount before your entitled to anything.

I worked in casinos in Las Vegas off and on for over 30 years. Was, what you would call, a pit boss....mostly in high limit gaming...baccarat etc.
Came over her at 57, and have been here almost two years.
