Having Your Mail Forwarded To Phuket?

Well, I'll be returning to Phuket in April, this time for at least four or five months (probably longer...).

I no longer plan to pre-book a hotel room because my TGF wants me to stay at her place, kind of a hole-in-the-wall apartment in Kathu. Hey, it'll save me some cash and we'll be together. I might want to get a nicer apartment later on, but we'll see how things go first...

My question today concerns mail delivery:
If I wanted my mail sent to me from the States (i.e., forwarded magazines, bills, letters from family, etc.), what are the options? [I don't want to have mail sent to my TGF's apartment because from the look of the place most, if any, wouldn't be delivered...]

Does either the Patong post office or one in Phuket City have post office boxes for rent? If so, does anybody know the approx. cost?

Or, are there private mailing companies like we have in the states (i.e., Mail Boxes Etc.) that will accept mail deliveries for you to pick up?

Or, can parcels be sent to a DHL, FedEx, or UPS facility (and where on Phuket are these types of places) for individuals to pick up there?

I'm just thinking it would be nice to get some mail from time to time during my stay so I can read it (or bin it) on those rare occasions of boredom; much better than trying to sort through it all when (if) I return to the States....

Thanks for any help/advice here...

I have seen private mailbox companies, but you can also rent a po box at every post office. But Patong is full but in Kathu or Phuket Town or another area would be more easier or you can use poste restante to the office in Patong.

I have a PO Box in Patong so whenever I move around, my postal adress is always same. I pay maybe 200 baht/year.

suggest you find a stateside forwarding service that will send you your mail every two weeks. You only have to deal with picking up your mail every two weeks, and it's less likely to get lost.

Good luck

Thanks for the info...will rent a p.o. box (Kathu would be best, I think).

I was thinking of having my mail forwarded to my sister's home in Kansas City, then she could package it up every once-in-a-while and add some "goodies" to it before sending it all to Thailand (her most infamous "goodie" was sending me a case of K.C. brewpup pale ale one Xmas but FedEx had a little too much sanuk with it and only three bottles arrived unbroken, the K.C. BBQ sauce arrived intact, though...)

Cool Mail drop point

Wait to you get here and then ask a local hotel or office if you can get your mail sent to their office.E mail that address to your sister and she then has an address to send to.

Last time I enquired the post office mail boxes were all taken.

The mail places in Lotus and Central have post boxes for hire. Don't know the cost or how reliable though!
