I want to live in Thailand!

I would like to live and work in Thailand. My wife is Thai and we want to start a business in Phuket. Maybe a hotel, bar or who knows what. I am an American and work in the Industrial Safety & Health field. I don't think there is much use for this specialty in Thailand yet, but what else is there to do till I can start the business with my wife. I am in Iraq now and want to get out of here. Any suggestions or tips???

Have a look around there are lots of discussions about working and visas.

Just because you are married to a Thai, doesnt give you permission to work, all that gives you is the right to a Non Immigrant O visa.

Hi LaDoy -

Its good that you want to live here - but long term its not so easy. Do a search through this forum and www.thaivisa.com. This will show you the problems and sometimes solutions on the working and visa issues. I'd strongly recommend that before going into any business here - live here at least 6 months, get to know people and settle down. Also not being dependent upon an income derived in Thailand (have income/pension from 'home') increases chances of succesful and reasonable lifestyle here. Having a Thai wife will also help a lot.

Good luck.

Thumbs up Asian Oil industry

If you are reasonably well qualified in the industrial safety you may find a job with some of the regional oil companies. There are many Ex Pats living here on Phuket who do the same.

Singapore,KL,and Miri all have big oil headquarters.

You could land a job doing alternate months work on work off.
