I'm getting a medal from the princess!
I got the call from Vachira for blood today. I've now given six times at vachira hospital. They gave me a small cool pin the first time then today I looked on the wall and there are all these cool pins/medals marking the milestones counts when you give bood. In JUne I get another one for giving seven. I pointed to some of the other pins and they said yaeh that's for 21, that's for so and so then they pointed to one they give you for 36 pints and they pointed to the princess pic on the wall and siad she give to you this medal and she also gives the one marking 100 pints but then they said "you old man when you get that one"
Anyhow the way I've got it figured if I give blood every three months for the next 6.75 years I will get a medal from the princess
Today it kinda hurt when they stuck the needle in and my arm is sore, but I'm going out tonight and will get a good buzz on!
Giving blood can be a cheap high

lol. Blood Donors always appreciated - I don't do it nearly enough.
My mum actually (almost) met the princess but she did meet her dogs who had their own room at Cape Panwa hotel.

Robert........It might be a good idea to go out drinking the day you give blood. That means you have less blood in your system and get faster drunk
I actually met the princess on the beach road 5 years ago....it was crowded with thai's around a big bus and as I was pushing myself forward in the crowd to get to the next bar, I was stopped by a bodygard and the princess was walking right in front of me.............
Didnt have time to have a chat with her, but not my style of woman anyway

In DK they wont allow you to give blood for 6 months if you have travelled to countries with for instance malaria. They wont even bother to go through testing your blood but just reject you straight away.
They have a number of "rejection reasons" like that. One of them is also "if you had sex with the local population in the last 6 months.." hehe - Looks like I am ineligible for life then.
After the 6 months you are allowed to donate blood again and they will of course be testing it.

You should not give blood if:
1 You've already given blood in the last 12 weeks (normally, you must wait 16 weeks).
2 You have a chesty cough, sore throat or active cold sore (although the end of a cold is OK).
3 You're currently taking antibiotics or you have just finished a course within the last seven days.
4 You've had hepatitis or jaundice in the last 12 months.
5 You've had ear or body piercing or tattoos in the last 6 months.
6 You've had acupuncture in the last 6 months outside the NHS (unless you can produce the approved certificate from your acupuncturist or physiotherapist).
7 A member of your family (parent, brother, sister or child) has suffered with CJD (Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease).
8 You've ever received human pituitary extract (which was used in some growth hormone or fertility treatments before 1985).
9 You have received blood or think you may have received blood during the course of any medical treatment or procedure in the UK since 1st January 1980.
|
AND ESPECIALLY FOR YOU IJ.
Quote:
You should not give blood for 12 months after sex with:
1 A man who has had sex with another man (if you're a female).
2 A prostitute.
3 Anyone who has ever injected themselves with drugs.
4 Anyone with haemophilia or a related blood clotting disorder who has received clotting factor concentrates.
5 Anyone of any race who has been sexually active in parts of the world where AIDS/HIV is very common. This includes countries in Africa.
Please do not give blood if you even think that you need a test for HIV or hepatitis, or if you had sex in the past year with someone you think may be HIV or hepatitis positive.

TRIED to give blood...
I went to the Blood Bank the other day with the guys from work (bit like a soft team building event by my psycho boss the CFO)
I was reading through that Q&A sheet they give you and then said to my best workmate (“I’m fcuked”)
After I told them about my last trips away to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia & Laos they politely told me to “go away” and they didn’t want my blood for 12mths.
Picky eh!
Cheers

I started donating blood whilst still in high school, was a good way to get out of class for an afternoon every few months, but stoped just short of 100 donations a few years ago.
I started to get tattooed on a regular basis, about 5 years ago, and haven't been back to donate since - but since it's been 12 months since the last ink went in, and I can't think of anything else I want tattooed at the moment, I might have to head back and start donating again.

A lot of my friends in university made quite good money spending blood in our local University Clinic (they paid, government clinics did not).
In those days I was travelling regularly to East Africa (kenya), so was rejected on that grounds alone.
