I'm coming to Phucket, to teach....i live in the states and have been without dental insurance...my question is, might i be better off getting some work done in Thailand, cost wise. Any comparisons or experience, is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Dental work out here is a lot cheaper than back in the states or Europe.The work is good and they have all the modern equipment.There are quite a few people come out here as "dental tourists".

From the research we've done on the net dental work is of high quality and about a third the cost of Australia...The Bangkok Phuket Hospital has a good dental clinic I believe.

The dental Clinic in Patong Hospital on sai Nam yen road is good and VERY cheap. 500 baht extraction; 1500 baht rootcanal treatment; 1500 baht plate made. Lady dentist POM is sweet and sings to you while hacking away inside your gob ;-)

Private dentists you'll see around charge 3 or 4 times as much and are no better.

I've heard about her as well...I gave the old cigarette seller (the one with one leg on crutches) 500 baht to have a abcessed tooth removed as he was in agony...and it was going to take him six months to save the 500 to have it extracted...gee that felt good...after that he would always give my son gum and us free lighters and run if we tried to give him the money!!! I also gave him several strips of panadol with instructions to curb the pain for a few days!!! He was so incredibly grateful...you would think you'd given him $1,000!!

Don't you just love the Thais!!!!

I had some dental work done last month.
Price:
Cavity fix 1500 bath with white filling
Plaque removal 1000 bath

Had it done in Patong at the dentist just a couple of hundred meters up past the municipality building, on the right hand side as you drive past in direction away from the beach.

socrteez, you may like to visit this site...there are many Dental Clinics in Patong...this is just one example we could find which had a pricelist...most sites you have to e-mail an inquiry before they will give you a price list.

Is there anyway I can send my teeth ahead of me. Have them given the chisel, brillo scrub and a bit of a spit and polish and have them waiting at my hotel for collection on arrival?

Hope so. I had some students do some dental work long time ago here. They x-rayed the wrong side because they were looking at a previous x-ray back to front.

The way it feels at the moment Steve I might just DHL it across for a quick polish job! Knowing what DHL is like in this neck of the woods though, I may never see it again!

It was in Fremantle and about that time, maybe a bit after. Was it a sexy young girl and an Asian guy? If they made the mistake with you, they should have caught on when I came. Small world. Now I am planning to have some dental work done in Phuket. Can have it all done in Thailand if I need more one day.

There was two of them. but tell the truth I can't remember if there was a sexy young girl but one of them was certainly a young asian guy.
Funny that, remembering the young guy but not if there was a sexy young girl present. And honest, I've never experienced the dark side.555555555
