pay for English teachers in Phuket

Finally, it seems I've lined up the opportunity to do something I've long wanted to do .......... move to Phuket. I have an opportunity to teach English there. I have TEFL certificate and have the opp to teach at a high school. Must question is, what is a fair wage that I can expect to earn there doing this? And how does that stand up to the local cost of living? ........ Thanks in advance! Sian

Hope you have some savings or an extra source of income Sian, or that you won't mind living on chicken and rice and noodle soup :-)

The life experience, in and of itself is priceless! You will make enough to get by.....you'll be working legally. You will be an expat...or you will go work somewhere else....All the best!

For the most part, people are very kind and insiteful.....look through the threads regarding accomadations, etc and you will begin to understand the "cost of living". These people have been awesome!

living on 30k

As mentioned above, you might be able to live on 30k a month (be careful if your contract does contain income tax, visa runs, etc, else you can substract a few thou a month for that).

But after living here a number of years, it comes more and more to my naive mind: if not putting at least the same amount in the bank, what will you live on after you are tired of actually working?? What if you would want to buy a house, a car, or -- finegrs crossed -- get seriously sick??

So, if you are not planning to stay here for only a very limited amount of time and have not burned all bridges back home, that is a very important thing to budget for as well.

The advice I give all my freidns is, get a source of income from abroad (like renting out a property), else you will be in for a very though time in paradise.
