What "Treats" do expats miss from home?
After reading threads about English folks missing UK Marmite and Aussies missing Vegemite and Golden Circle Beetroot...what else do others miss from home?
We found one of our sons just wanted a meat pie whilst in LOS!!!

Hmmm...interesting...I wondered if a Ridgy Didge Pie franchise from Oz would do any good in Patong?...Don't know what the Thais would think of a meat pie ...lol...but maybe tourists and expats might like...
Yes and the humble chiko roll..."It's a long way to the shop if you want a chiko roll" !! (sung to AC/DC tune!!!) LMAO
I am very interested in what the various Westerners and Europeans miss from home...

You can get a decent pie in Phuket already, but just not the same.

Cheese was a bit of a craving.. Even now the selection has got a bit better but is still expensive.. The whole bredth of selection of hard cheeses without being real expensive would be nice. Exactly the same feelings about wine, getting better but still expensive for lower quality. You just have to treat yourself every once in a while.
Branston pickle.. I know guys that always ask for fray bentos bake in the tin pies from UK.
Lots of my mates are in the oil games and travel a lot so we have a steady supply of lorne sasage and black puddings, the odd haggis etc..
As long as theres coffee beans I can handle the rest.

i also miss walkers crisps and heinz salad cream both of which you can buy here but only periodically then they run out for ages.
fancied a Ginsters Sausage Roll the other day.
Proper english style curry.
Doner Kebab.
Can of English Coke - it's too sweet here - like drinking treacle.

You don't mean the ones from David the Pastie and pie man...the one that looks like Uncle Fester??? Last time we were there and he had a broken arm and his arm cast was reaking in the heat...LOL...didn't quite fancy a pie from him...although people said they were ok!!!

I remember years ago, before Mike retired and he was travelling heaps for work, whenever he came home from a trip he would expect the Roast lamb on the table with all the trimmings including home made mint sauce...I always obliged!!

I think that the milk has improved in Asia generally over the last decade or so...isn't it Dutch milk that we buy in Phuket? I have milk in my coffee and tea and I find it quite tolerable...even just to drink straight...
I really love the Thai yoghurt...must be really fattenning cause it is as sweet as hell and I bet it aint low fat!!! Love the strawberry...they don't hold back on the artificial colours either...you don't know cause the label is all in Thai

I disagree, It has some of the worst dairy products I have tasted anywhere except for the yogurt which was passable, And if it has improved over the years, Then I would have hated to taste it 10years ago
Obviously you have never tasted Irish dairy stuff, Its really good and I should know, Thats what I work at

Not saying that it's great...but it's a great improvement from the old days of UHT (heat treated long life milk) or coffee mate non dairy whitener...or no milk at all 20 or so years ago...I'm sure that dairy is fabulous in Ireland...I reckon milk has gone to pack in Oz...but then again when I was a kid we had a cow at the dairy and used to pick up fresh milk every day with about 6 inches of cream on it...now that was milk!!
Now it's just watered down homogonized stuff that kinda resembles milk!!

I've been told before (by an ex gf - who was Indian) that the vast majority (90%+) of Indian restaurants in England are actually run by Bangladeshi's not Pakistanis.
Where I used to live NW London (Harrow/Wembley), you could plenty of real Indian food and it is nothing like the crap you get in the high street places.
Unfortunately I've not found anything over in Phuket that comes close, not been to Navrang, which I know has been recommended, but have tried Baluchi and it was dreadful.

That's interesting...Great Indian food available in Oz...we only went to one Indian restaurant in Patong and it was awful...can't remember the name but we were ripped off and the waitress was coughing over the food and we watched them put what was left on our table back in the pots!!!!
