2 automotive needs..
I recently had my jeep restored and rebuilt.. Now its all nice and new but I would like to break the one color paint job up.. I was thinking of getting those laser cut decals done (mirror finish / tribal tattoo shapes or dragons etc) to jazz it up..
Theres a selection of people online that will do it but then with postage import tax etc it all seems a hassle.. I have seen these on tuk tuks and cant imagine they pay 100's of bucks for them.. anyone have any idea of where I can get laser cut decals / stickers made for a car ??
Second thing I want for it is to find some larger tyres.. The sets (I have a spare set also) that are fitted are more road style and I would like to increase tyre size more for look than anything else.. If I need to jack the body for clearance these jeeps are so mickey mouse constructed I can see easily where to add some spacers to jack the body / make a lift kit.. Piece of cake..
Now with all these pickups and jeeps and all these written off vehicles I cant imagine that theres not a breakers yard or second hand tyre place ?? But every time I have tried to explain this desire to a thai they just look blank and seem mystified about obtaining second hand parts.. One mechanic I spoke to phoned me back and said he could get some but at 15k baht.. Seemed a bit farang price to me i was thinking more in the 1 - 2k per tyre as fair.. Again I cant imagine Thais spending so much on second hand tyres (if they would I have 4 spares stored !!).. This is purely a cosmetic thing and low importance..
Get an amp and build in an ipod MP3 play system and it will be well tidy !!

I dont know about laser cut but most advertising firms can cut stickers for you by a computer design, lot of signboards also use stickers as they dont fade so quickly as inkjet signs do.
I also think there is a shop on phrabaramee who can do full color printing on stickers/cut that would be suitable for car decals.

Most of the advertising ones I have seen on vinyl seema little different than the car decal ones (thicker, more likely to peel) I am no expert on this tho.. Will ask around in the advertising places..

As for price examples, my 2.5x0.30m "PHUKET-INFO.COM" sticker costed me 400 baht.

Loads online.. But adding shipping and import taxes will kind of double the price..
However I do agree that I think service will probably be better.. Vince just PM'ed me with an offer that may help..

Ok, I'm not a big fan of decals and I'm even less a fan of the mirror finish as that fad has come and gone here in Miami. Wouldn't it be fairly cheap to have the design painted on the jeep? (assuming you would let the paint give you the "mirror" effect) What color is the Jeep BTW? I realize this is a totally different direction than what you're thinking of doing, but thought I'd throw it out there anyway.
And while we're on this subject (hahaha), if I were to stay in Phuket for an extended period of time, say a year or more, would I be allowed to buy an old car and restore/modify it for my own personal use without getting a work permit?

Restoring a car without a WP I would think is a fine thing.. If the true WP rules are followed I cant dress myself or water the plants.. Its becomes ubsurd..
The jeep is right now a blue metalic kinda sky blue, thought it would be more 'electric' blue but the paint didnt come out on a large scale quite how the sample appeared.. I have had stanless side bars / steps and front qand back bumpers made so its basically sky blue and shiny finish.. Hence the chrome decals would keep the chrome / blue look going.. I dont think black would look good.. Dont think of any other single color that would work as cleanly..
As to having a custom artists paint job.. Think it would be dissapointing and probably a lot more then the price of a couple of stickers.. Theres not much space on the surfaces though.. Room for a couple of things on the bonnet and something small worked onto the sides.. I turned down the offer of having doors made as I like the jump in open side feel to it..
I would love to have a fake snake fabbed up here !! Always wanted one and will someday have a nice Cobra rep.. But dont think the reg process can be done without massive taxation.. Could use a donor VW to make a dune buggy or Baja Bug, that would prolly keep the chassis and engine numbers and skip the rules..

I see where you're going with the design. I'll be in Patong in a month. Maybe I could deliver the decals to you? Like I said, I'm in Miami, so try searching in my area and see if you can find something you like. I'm not sure if I would have a problem bringing things from the U.S. to Patong, but I'd give it a try if it would help.

No problem at all. Whichever way works best. I'll be leaving here on June 6. I'll probably need ten days lead time to have them shipped to my house and to get one of those cardboard tubes to put them in. Just let me know.
