Direct Intl. Flights for Visa Runs

Thought it might be useful to get a list going of direct flights from Phuket going out of Thailand....good for visa runs and trips away

A listing maybe with days and times?

Orient Thai are starting direct flights to Hong Kong in July and Hong Kong Express in August as well as another one called CR Airways....and Thai are going to restart direct flights to Seoul in July....and Pusan in October.

((Busan Metropolitan City, also commonly referred to as Pusan, is the largest harbor city in Korea. With a population of about 3.65 million, Busan is also South Korea's second largest metropolis next to Seoul. The densely populated city is situated in the narrow Nakdong River valley, with mountains separating some of the various districts. ))

Depending on seasons you can sometimes get out of HKT to sing and back same day on a combo of Tiger air and Jetstar asia for cheap.. Obviously multiple flights per day with Silk air but that gets up around 7500.. Tiger and Jetstar are the 2 budget lines for Sing..

Air Asia has the cheap KL route..

Why someone doesnt lay on a once a week visa run to Langkawai.. I am sure once it was known it would be mobbed..

In the past we had direct flights to Penang and Hat Yai (close to border). I especially miss the Hat Yai flight. My first years in Thailand I went to Penang a lot of times using the direct flight, now I stick to KL thought.

Any idea why they stopped those flights (Penang and/or Hatyai)? I can't believe it was financially motivated since the flights always seemed to be full of visa runners whenever I used them. Could it have been political?

Hat Yai flight got pulled after the bomb in the airport IIRC..

Killed the route and never restarted.

Yes, and also when Phuket Air had lot of negative media reports at the same time. (It was Phuket Air, wasnt it?)

Before Phuket Air Thai Airways had that route but they used pretty big airplanes and was seldom full, this was not the case with Phuket Airs smaller airplanes, always pretty full.

There is definitely a market for this route.

That would be great..... At the minute i am trying to sort out a trip somewhere other than just Bangkok - Phuket... Although thats not a bad idea... With routes to places like Korea would be great to be able to fly direct there rather than route through Bangkok... Also it can only be good for tourism....

Extra afternoon AirAsia KUL flight started 11 July.

Came back myself on AK876 yesterday. An epic journey. At 1430 they announce delay due operational reasons to 1730. At 1730 call everyone to the Gate and we think we are leaving...but no, it's to give us a BigMac or McChicken sandwich! and a bottle of water and say they don't know how much longer the delay will be. 1800 they announce delay due to late arrival of inbound aircraft and it's due 1830 and we should leave 1855. We get airborne 1930. Fly perfectly smoothly for about 1/2 an hour but strangely the seatbelt fasten sign stays on and the cabin staff remain seated...no announcement of any sort.

Then we hear the undercarriage being lowered, then the Captain comes on and tells the cabin staff to be seated for landing!! Still no announcement from stewardess or the Captain...we land and looking out the window clearly we have not landed at Phuket!...we're taxiing in and at last the stewardess comes on and says "Yes, we are back at Kuala Lumpur. The Captain will advise what is happening when we are on the stand."

We pull up...engines kept running...Captain comes out of flightdeck and takes the mike and stood in front of us....fair play to him....said "one of our company aircraft is down today in Phuket (to some this may have sounded like one had crashed, but he meant one had a technical problem) and the company thought there was an engineer there who could sign it back on after repair, but there wasn't and so we were ordered back to pick one up!" As he says those last few words the door opens and in walks the engineer to cheers and clapping. 15 minutes later we taxi out again and finally arrive in Phuket at 2015...only 5 hours late

Not all flights are like this but having been a steward myself for a few years I have to say the crew/passenger communication was pretty p$ss poor!!

Thumbs up Keep up the good work los

Funny thing that.Yesterday I returned on the Air Asia flight and they waited until this bloke in "ground crew style" uniform got seated before taking off.

Reading your report makes me think that they now maybe carry a spare mechanic.

Still - not to worry - I got there and back a hell of a lot cheaper than the regular carriers. The plane was only half full so I was able to sprawl out.

I have no idea how prices compare to what is already available in Phuket, but I recently came across this site http://www.tv-air.com/promotion/airfare.php?id=202 (recommended by www.mangosauce.com) whilst looking for cheap fares for my GF to get to England. I know it states prices from Bangkok, but I would imagine being a travel agency they could quote prices out of Phuket airport. I notice that they currently have Singapore on offer for 4,300baht but as I say, that's out of Bangkok.

Worth a try ??

For prices you are unlikely to ever beat booking direct with the airline online.

For the trip I've just done HKT-KUL-HKT I paid 1698baht + 1794 taxes = total 3492 baht.

It's the other way around in the UK, if you go to the airline online it is usually the most expensive way, unless they are doing a special promotion or something like it.

First Land Run

Greetings--

Just completed my first ground visa run. A miserable experience, carsick from the winding roads. Have attached a picture... please note the pouring rain.

However, chatted up one long-term expat who has made the run many many times. His claim (not mine so please do not flame me) is that aerial runs are both expensive and unpredictable. "If anything goes wrong you are stuck." Literally, one supposes. Even when things work it still takes most of the day. He now does the ground runs unless he can justify a flight for some other reason.

I have also attached a picture of two Filipinas who brightened up the Burma end of things. Sadly, they were on a different visa tour-- in fact, they had to come to our boat to use the facilities.

As it's such a miserable experience...and that's all I've heard from people that have done that Ranong run...why not go on a mini holiday every 3 months?...not going to cost you a lot more over the course of year and you can enjoy a few days away.

Go to KL you can get a 60 day visa which you can extend 30 days here.

You can fly to KL for less than 3500 baht return. AirAsia Skybus is only 9RM to KL Sentral. Hotel around 80RM. Genting Highlands is only 7RM by coach from Sentral...great place for 2 or 3 days....like a mini Las Vegas/Disneyland built on top of a mountain...has 2 massive casinos. Rooms 85RM include 2 meals in any of 5 restaurants.

I have never been on a Ranong run and will continue to avoid going.

I've done the Ranong run many times, and it is truly a grueling day from early to late.

That's why last winter I did both my runs to Phnom Penh!! From BKK, it is less than an hour flight for approx. 3100 Baht(can be more depending on day of the week you want to fly).

I understand that the twice daily hkt to klumpor flight is to be restored shortly by malaysia airlines. Would this make getting the 60 day visa practicable?
