Loved the dodger story...
Hi all, been planning a year out for a while since visiting Bkk n Hua Hin earlier this year. Seems my boss took my request for voluntry redundo literally and binned me. Luckily he's invited me back when I return, nice bloke.
Anyway, me my missus and our 3 year old are popping over in Nov for 9 to 12 months tester. Last few days I've been trawling all the chat from the regulars on here, pretty comical esp. that dodger story...should put it together for a book.......you have a good style about ya.
I reckon on going to Kata as a central location to start to find somewhere to rent. As I'm not a hardened drinker I expect that Nai harn/Kata is more our place, tho after reading ur blogs I'm getting drawn to the patong outlying areas. (never actually been to Phuket). Prob bore you all to death with some 'usual' questions over the coming year or so.
My 1st one........is..........any reccommendations for a starter place in Kata/Karon ish area. Looking for say 4 weeks to recon from. 2 bed, pool t'internet n such.....hotel or short let.
Hoping to have drinkypoos with yuall when we get there, sound a sound bunch........
Any help appreciated.
ps Am I going to have trouble finding 2 or 3 bed house/condo/apartment with pool of some kind and internet in December/january, as it seems to be hi season?

Welcome to the Board Paharoh...
You've been bitten buy the LOS bug as well...
My hubby, my 14 y/o son and I are also moving to LOS in September for a year or two...if you are interested in what we are doing we have a thread in Expats as well which is telling of our adventures.
I know your 3 y/o is a little young for school just yet, but it won't be long...we are placing our son in the QSI International School, Phuket.
Good luck and keep reading the board...lots of really great info here if you're planning a move to LOS.

Thanks M&M, had noticed ur impending move. Hope it goes well, have u decided where you're going yet.....did you sell the house?
Haven't had time to read every bit of it yet.....been speeding reading about all sorts since chancing upon the site 2 days ago. Although I had been planning for a while some of the info has been really useful, and other stuff just served to reassure me that I wasn't far of the mark with my finances....
plus the idea of recon for a bit first cos lodgings may be cheaper there than through the net beforehand.

Hey Pharoah...we'll be staying at Casa Summer Breeze in Patong for the first three weeks while we look for permanent accommodation...
No we didn't sell the house because of the downturn in the housing market...decided it was more praticable to hold onto the house...We're leaving our 19 y/o son to house sit and mind the Dobermans...he won't leave home so we're going to!!!!

Graham...Have done a lot of research regarding Hotels...The Casa Summer Breeze is in Soi Sansabai which is very close to Bangla Road and the action...Bill, the owner, boasts that it is the "cleanest" hotel in Patong...it looks very nice...the only problem I can see for you as a family is that it doesn't have a pool...this is not a problem for us as we really don't want a pool...however there is a pool at the end of the Soi which you can go to for a charge of 70 baht entry...I have seen pictures of it and it is very nice with lounges and brollies all round and you can even get good food and drinks there also good.
The rates are, however, very reasonable...we are paying a total of 1,850 Baht AUD$65.00 for two rooms, a standard room and a Summer Suite...this is in the low season.

LOL dawsey...
Jon will be fine...Unlike the two elder boys (as you know I have four sons) he's not the party animal...he doesn't smoke and very seldom drinks...he's had no desire to run off to the city like Luke and Daniel, doesn't want to leave home and when it comes to money is "As Tight as a Fish's Asshole...
QUOTE t0rn: My folks did this to me when I was 17 - wasn't their cleverest decision ever but I did survive it and earned enough money myself to also stay at the Casa Summer Breeze
t0rn there is quite a difference between 17 and 19...at 17 our kids haven't even left school...but at 19 they have already left school and done one years work or other...in Jon's case he's been working for the last year since he left school...
I think it depends on the kid, the age and the circumstances under which you are leaving him. As you say you survived and were able to save enough money to stay at the Summber Breeze...well as we've already said to Jon, he will be able to save enough money to buy his ticket, with the new Jetstar cheap fares from Australia, and he can stay with us when he arrives...no accommodation costs...so will cost him very little in the long run.
Jon also has a real sense of "houseproudness" and is showing promise so we are hoping all will go well.
How old are you now t0rn if you don't mind me asking? I would like to hear more of your experience back then and how it all went down.
