Smile Schools for young offspring

Sorry if this is a bit obscure, but I am coming to live in Kamala and will have a young sprogg in tow, Asian, speaks Thai, but isn't Thai (7 years of age). Does anyone know any schools local to there, that would accept non-Thai children, ideally private, non-government schools as their criteria tends to be more lax.

I don't want anywhere like Dulwich which would be too far away, too expensive, and too high a standard for the child involved.

Any suggestions or recommendations welcome.

thanks

I do think there is another international school that is not expensive as what used to be called dulich. It might be a bit to the south but I'm pretty sure there is another one around.

Good luck!

The other International School on Phuket is the QSI International...it is half the price of the British Intnernational School...Only has 101 students...

You do not mention weather the child speaks english...All subjects are taught in English at the QSI.

QSI International School of Phuket
QSI International School of Phuket - school description

Hope this is of some help.

Thanks guys. Yes, I know about QSI, but that's more or less in Phuket Town - well it's on the by-pass. It schools actually in Kamala I am looking for.

They can teach in Thai or English.

I think anything less than the 2 'international schools' will be the standard Thai repeat after me curriculem.

The Bilingual schools - Kajionkiet, Daroong and Dara Samut are also in Phuket City - so other than QSI or the BICS (Dulwich) don't think you'll be able to avoid a bus ride or daily commute - maybe Kamala not the best option to live if you don't fancy the distance to the school and since your child is 7 - thats a good few years to consider.

As one of my buddies has adopted Thai kids I have got to hear some Thai school horror stories.

Teacher at school which is insisting kids use computers, Kids are assigned homework and told the HAVE to go do it at an internet cafe that he will supervise them at.. Of course it turns out its his internet cafe.. Charges the kids 25 baht per printed page (well above average) and has a tendancy to not help them to print only the right parts.. Lots of 10 and 15 page printing mistakes. Children that dont go to his shop are given a massively hard time, thier homework failed and told to redo it over and over. Costs can be 300 baht per day per child !!!

Another one was that the Thai schools are so over subscribed in kids that they are refusing children to the school.. cost (to a Thai) was 60k baht tea money to get her son admitted back at the school he had been studying at so far or 25k to change to a cheaper / worse school.. Unhappy kid as new school, new school mates, etc. These are not private schools just the slightly better than average Thai ones I understand.
