Yeah but

A) not rigged with a movable dish..

B) ADSL is not reliable enough for my TV (its a rare day its not down for short periods).

C) My home theater is a little overloaded with signal inputs..

Ideal situation is to use a PC decode and dish pointing at Astro only as it saves another source input (everything in my HT goes through a HTPC)..

Still a very interesting solution using these code share ideas.. Channel tuning delay would worry me on slow ADSL days.. Hence nice as a backup system but wouldnt get me to lose my UBC subscription just yet.

Its not my ADSL is slow.. Its that its unreliable..

The box doesnt still channel change once ADSL is down correct ?? Well my ADSL tends to drop out a lot.. Goes and comes.. Not suitable for a critical app like getting a channel code.

So its not ADSL speed I am worried about.. More that ADSL in Thailand (my line anyway) is not reliable enough to use.. Its annoying enough when the net goes.. Doubly so if that means no TV also !!

I am now on my 3rd line to the house.. Wits end really !! They seem incapable of getting ADSL to work with any real uptime to my location..

Used to have IPStar.. That would go south whenever it rained and the syetm in general was slow, unreliable, buggy and expensive..

Then came ADSL.. Intermittant at best. (JI net 256 back then)..

New house and TOT ADSL.. Works but just drops for minutes to hours.. Thats the line hardware side.. Also drops sometimes due to TOT goldcyber being poorly supported but thats much more rare.. Annoying thing is when it works its fast.

After so many years I am used to Thailands 'intermittant' services..

Anyway its not an ADSL thread.. Good luck with the biz..

Problem is my line drops totally not just slows..

Its continual up down up dawn all day.. Sometimes down for seconds sometimes minutes.. Those minutes would not allow channel changing.

Line was down when I typed this.. Back now..

I really think you need to pick up that telephone and complain
even for a poor service provider in Thailand this is not normal .

I do remember in the early day's i did have a problem like this with a dial up connection after many phone calls by me and the thai wife they did send someone around to the House to Investigate ..

2hrs later Problem solved NEW Telephone line installed

Maybe you should name this service provider so other board members can take note of this Company ..

As i said i use JI-NET its 99% online and very happy with there service

I have had TT&T and TOT lines.. This is my 3rd TOT line to this address..

I have spent months argueing about it.. I have spent day after day after day in the TOT office.. I now know almost all the TOT engineers by first name basis.. The ADSL division boss.. The head of TOT office in Patong.. The ADSL guys in the phuket town backbone office.

My location is a long way from the exchange.. They seem unable to fix the line hardware issue.

Currently on TOT with goldcyber / Pacific internet.. when it works its fast but the line hardware provided by TOT is simply not stable.

Well this problem from what i can read from above has nothing to do with the telephone line nor how far away you are from the Exchange ( Means Nothing )

This is just down to very poor internet service provider

If you Telephone JI-NET and explain your problem im 100% sure they will solve this problem and offer you a better service .Telephone JI-NET head office in BKK give them your telephone number they will also check the line between the exchange .

If you talk to JI-NET nice im also 100% sure they will offer you a 1 month free trial before you sign any contract

If your more than a certain distance from the exchange you cannot get ADSL at all, of course it could mean something.. If they have too many connections and poor wiring it lowers the distance (IIRC its 6km line distance max but 3km for full speeds)..

TOT now say that I am in a 'marginal signal area' and my debug logs show a high DB signal loss on the line. I can see myself in the ADSL modem logs that its 'linestate' dropping.. Not ISP issues but the line authentication and handshaking dropping off.. When the line stays 'up' I get fine speed from the ISP.. But the line doest stay up.. The line I had replaced oin July was especially bad in the rain.. How would 'rain' be effecting my ISP ??

Of course it could be a TOT issue at the exchange.. But short of using TT&T (that my mate has and also is intermittant on HiNet) I dont see that changing whoever is the ISP. TOT maintain (could be lieing to me.. Face saving is always hard to understand) that this doesnt happen for everyone on goldcyber.. Hence I am concluding its line reaching to my location.

I had JI net at my old house.. Had problems then but that was in the very early days of ADSL.. Have had broadband since the dark old days of IPstar.. 15k per month on some high bandwidth months.. 7500 per month for measly 3GB per month transfer limits.

I should see if they (JI) can do an install concurrent with what I have.. Or buy another line again and have 2 lines for a time..

Hope you don't sell adsl as well. As with this statement you just disqualified yourself completely.

max dsl speed available is depending on distance to the exchange and quality of the cables to the house, further then about 6km from the exchange (optimum situation with good cabels) and you can forget it. An extention cable in the house of poor quality can bring your max syncspeed down a lot.

LIL: are you connected to the mastersocket. are your phone devices filtered (try your router in the master socket with no phones on the line and see what your noise levels are doing) if still low, you can ask your provider to put you on interleave (if not allready and lower your noise margins, even putting a cap on your sync speed to a bit lower may result in a more stable connection.

As you clearly have a sync issue (dsl signal fails) this is an line/exchange issue. Your isp however can change some margins on your line to make it more stable.

Well

Nicke and K2 did get a demo today on whats on offer
The demo was more the 6km from the exchange .

Also while this demo was staged we also was downloading 1mb file
The result was 100% perfect the pic did not drop off once ...

Infact i did this demo many times even turned the power off several times

this demo was on only 512 / 256
far from the exchange and in the middle of nowhere

I also crashed the router and no data transfer from the net but the asdl to the receiver was still perfect .

I still say that this problem is down to the internet service provider i also did try other providers and now i have stuck with JI-NET not had any problems like what i have seen posted

You obviously have a line with a low Db signal loss.. Wish I could get one at this house.

But to say that bad service in Thailand is not normal.. Well I beg to differ.. I have had JI net CS Lox IPStar Hinet and Goldcyber in the last few years.. none really provided me 'good service'.. I put lines and ADSL in for lots of mates to help them get configured.. many of them have similar issues of line drops.. Even Nicke was saying his JI-Net in Patong (super close to exchange) was dropping out on him more often recently.

Today clocking in 800kbps and seems to have been up for a few hours.. But its just something of after chasing broadband (since the dark days of massively expensive 2 way sat systems or 80k per month leased lines) for years, I have resigned myself to.

I fail to understand this comment.. If you crash (turn off ?? reboot ??) the router and break the net connectivity how does the reciever have its own internet uplink / connection ??

Unless you move house and keep the number. LIL did you contact them to see iff they can adjust your line margins ( I would suggest 2:2:6:6 as it is probably 4:4:10:10 now) if they can do that it will surely stabelize your line

can you let me know the noise levels and attenuation as they are according to your router?

One option I was going to do was go direct to CAT.. Not everywhere can get it.. You give them a map to your house and they come and give you a yes or no answer and then run a new line direct from the CAT systems to you. Khun Woody has one and claims its the best service hes used so far... Int bandwidth up in the 1.2 Mbps..

I presume as all bandidth goes through them anyway they put thier own customers first..

Has anyone been into the true office.. Thats about the only service provider I havent had any dealings with..

This is TOT line number 3.. They assured me that the last line change would fix everything due to being a brand new junction box on Nanai.. So direct new lines from exchange, junction box, my house isntead of the usual nest of vipers..

Link Information

Uptime: 0 days, 1:17:12
Modulation: G.992.1 Annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 384 / 1.024
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [KB/KB]: 0,00 / 0,00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,0 / 19,0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 20,5 / 24,0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 7,0 / 23,5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM

As you can see my uplink is not making a full 512.. Thats 384 but I am usually 412 - 450 ish.. But its raining right now !!!!

Send a message via ICQ to Nicke
Have you tried with another ADSL router? In case it is the router itself that is bad or having problem.

As expected your noise margins up are on the limit. adjusting the margins on your line so the line disconnects less will help you. Change of cabels will probably help (your CAT suggestion).
