What happend to me?
This is kinda embarassing to write but ive got to figure it out so here goes...
My first trip to thailand was when i was 19. Way to young age to go BM in thailand as a crazy invincable adrenaline junky, 19 year old kid. But i had one hell of a tme!!
Untill i got arrested for smoking ganja and the nightmare begun! Not so bad situation but not pleasant. I had 10 cops with revolvers arrest me and bring me to Surat thani. This was a friday. I didnt have the sence to pay myself out of the situation and was told that it was good cause they were so many cops. Ive been told that it couldve led me into deper trouble. They told me that if there were two or three of them i should offer a bribe but not when they are so many as ten. I dont know but thats how that went.
Anyway.. Got my "lawyer" to post bail for me on a saturday after much work and a considerable amount (i got so screwed! lol , but i was 19 for christs sake and didnt know any better) But i got out of the jail in Surat and went on to phuket and partyed for two weeks before i had to go back to Surat for my courtcase. I came to Surat the night before my date in court. Had met a nice girl in Phuket and she was from Surat and i took her with me. We met her family and i got to talk with her brother in law, who was running a gambling scheme of some sort. We talked about this and that and this thai guy was real cool! We talked about english football and such. He asked me the situation and i told him about it(the lawyers name and the case it self). He then said that the lawyer was screwing me over, but i was not to worry, hell take care of it! AND THIS IS WHERE THE STORY GETS INTERESTING FOR ME AST LEAST! We then go down the road into a snooker hall and play some snooker. ( i had told i knew how to play but i thought he ment pool not snooker ) But i did okay i guess. Then me and my girl go back to the hotel and i ask what was that all about, he said he was to take care of it and i was not to worry!?? No problem he take care she said. He mafia!!! LOL! He mafia? what are u talking about? I took it with a smile and thought no more about the matter.
Next morning im sitting in the court house and im nervous as hell! 19 years old and on the other side of the world going to court for drugs in a country where they are very harsh compared to my country on such things. So im sittingon a bench and the police chief comes walking over!?? He asks if im the guy who played pool yesterday? Yes i say! He pats me on the shoulder and tells me not to worry!?? Im thinking what the hell? After a long day of waiting for the paperwork to go im released. All is well but i had to go to Bangkok to get my passport. My lawyer needed no more money and everything was OK u go as he said!
Im wondering. What the hell happend here? Did i get helped or did i get screwed? Im leaning towards that i got screwed but that insident with the police chief sure was special!!
Thoughts?

Family Matters
Just for the record my thoughts are these.
It is unlikely that the person you played pool with was really "mafia" in the sense that most people think of it. It may well be that he was related in some way to the Police chief or one of the court officials. It is very likely that a good word was put in for you based on your age and foolishness... and probably not because of your snooker skills.
You were very very lucky indeed.

Well its not like it was a lot of ganja. So im pretty sure i wouldve gotn myself out of it anyway, just that it wouldve cost me a lot. The guy didnt seem to be a "top guy" or anything. He was a ordinary thai fellow so i dont think he was the don or anything. Could be as u said. I dont think my snooker skills had anything to do with it.....

Its not the amount that you had on you. Its not like europe where they give you a smack on the wrist and give you a warning. I had a mate get busted in Jakarta with two joints on him, he was half indo and half swiss, he got put away for 6 months. If they really wanted to get you there would have been nothing you would have been able to do about it. My mate was 18 when he was busted. So you should thank your lucky stars that you got let off. Its a zero tolerance policy in places like Singapore, malaysia, thailand, indo... So whether you have a little or a lot you will still get into trouble.

Are u sure about that? I know that they arent tolerant like europeans. But when i spent the night in a holding cell, the guard told me that it wasnt a problem.. "Very little! U get fine" He told me. But my lawyer told me that i had to go to bangkok and sit in jail to wait to be deported. And that couldve taken months at least. But he said he could bribe the "prisoners exchange department" (dont know the english word). And i would be able to go home after two weeks when the paperwork was done. I still had to go to bangkok and get my passport which i did. I dunno. But as i said this never happened and im glad it didnt cause he was probably looking to get paid!
What i do know is not to go to thailand and smoke weed though! No matter if its some goooood shit they got down there!

It is on channel 5 at 10.00pm , it is called "Banged Up Abroad".

The Sandra Gregory Story.
A true life 'Midnight Express' story following the experiences of Sandra Gregory, a young middle-class backpacker who was sentenced to life imprisonment in Thailand for smuggling 90 grams of heroin. After spending two years in Thailand, Sandra had fallen ill and could no longer work as an English teacher. A fellow Briton offered her 1,000 pounds to take a package of heroin to Japan for him. Sandra was sentenced to life in Bangkok's overcrowded Bang Kwang prison, and feared the worst.

Dont think any joint is good enough to risk getting thrown into a thai jail and come out with an ass like a clowns pocket a few years later

I was in Scotland when everyone was whinging about the plight of this wee Scotish teacher. What a load of dog poop.
She was fully aware of what she was doing and was being a professional smuggler.
She was given some sort of prisoner exchange and is now making a heap of money out of it.She did not even finish her time in a Scottish jail.
Was she not the one who passed the buck on to her male colleague who copped a bigger sentence.
People like this deserve what they get.
And you Louis - you are one lucky SOB to have got away with what you were caught for.Sometimes the Gods favour fools and innocents.
Also Louie be careful.Your identity will be "flagged" and known to both immigration and the drugs police.YOU HAVE BEEN LUCKY ONCE.

If u meen that i shouldnt do that again i can assure u that i need no more lessons before i learn! They showed me the jail in Surat Thani and how they got so many prisoners into such a small building i dont know!! But im not to worried about being "flagged" though. The case just disappeared into the air and i was free. Dont think that they have to big a file on me if any. But who knows?
Should i be worried about this? Im imagening someonefraiming me and try to **** things up for me..?

No matter what excuses she used after being detained , the truth is she was caught with almost 90 grams of heroin , she knew the laws in Thailand and she broke them. She had been in Thailand for 4 years , so knew exactly what would happen if she was caught with drugs . This was not a case of someone having drugs "planted" on them , she accepted money to do this , and as such she deserved what she got.

Also , she was not the "innocent" she pretended to be , here is a quote from an interview with her after she was released from jail in the UK.
Quote:
Gregory also admits that she had used drugs before as a youngster and had attempted to bring cannabis back to the UK following a trip to Amsterdam when she was 17.
She said she was spotted by a young American as she made her way to the customs checkpoint at the ferry port who told her that she looked too obvious. The man offered to take the drugs through customs for her. She told him to keep the hashish.
"I should have known then that I would never make a drug smuggler, but I just couldn’t read the signs."

you know that in your country you don't spend 7ys in jail because of 90g of heroin, nor you'll get a life sentence for that.on the contrary in your country like mine there are re-educative plans.now I know, that is not our country ,hand we have to respect their law,but be honest with yourself faulty.a life sentence for 90g of heroin, are we just joking???

As`you say , it's not our country , it's not our laws . We are all aware of the law in Thailand , it is on posters everywhere , she had lived in the country for years and knew the rules , yet she still tried and was caught.
There are other countries where she would have got the Death Penalty , my view is that if you "knowingly" break the law (and here I'm talking about drugs) then you should be prepared to face the consequences , and in countries like Thailand that means a very long jail term.

when you visit another country you should learn their rules and abide by them. If you do not take the time to learn the rules then you are asking for a quick and painful lesson.
