Wiring Money to Thai Bank
Can anyone tell me how long it takes to wire money from the US into A bank in Thailand? My Credit Union was very vague on this and said something about going through the Fed Reserve. Is this normal?
Thx

Wiring Methods
The "speed" of transmission depends on what you pay. (Banks- don't ya love 'em).
The problem is that the "clearance" now involves a period of time before the funds are "truly" there. This is 7 working days. However, funds can be expressed cleared in 3 working days if you pay for "express".
Thailand also has some vaguaries as well. The different banks do different things at branch level! So although the funds may have reached the Khon Khaen branch of the Siam Commercial Bank, how long they take to appear or not in the GF's book is a matter for the branch manager...
My first transmission took 9 working days. (7 plus 2). I subsequently had lunch with the manager of the bank. All my transactions now appear to clear in 3 days...
TIT (This is Thailand)
Hope this helps

Yes, even within the US it goes through the Fed Reserve. 3-5 business days overseas minimum. I know some US financial institutions that wont even send to certain countries. Better make sure your's does.

You would think it would be the same where ever you are as we use computers, it certainly leaves my account quick enough.
You could use a credit transfer company like Western Union.

Thank you very much for the quick replies. As a matter of fact it is BangKok bank that I will be wiring to. So maybe that institution is a little faster.
Thanks again for the help Gents.

Patriots
The problem the yanks have got is the Patriot Act. Things have to be verified a lot more and it takes longer. Also Australians don't put up with any crap from banks...

Just as a reference point, and to add to what Falanger quoted, it is $25 to $40 here in the US regardless of the amount sent. So 21 pounds seems right, but for sending 200 pounds, that's 10%!
Maybe send more??? Or does the buffalo only have a bad cough?

Just been to the western union website sending £200 over the internet would cost me £21, with an exchange rate of 66.79Baht to £1.
Same charge as my bank.

Probably better flight costs to be had by booking over there too. 200GBP seems high though within Thailand. Have you tried the discount carriers: Nok, Silk, AirAsia, Tiger?
Have a good holiday...

A bit of a luxury i have in Thailand is travelling Thai Buisness class and last time i took her to Chiang Mai the same.
So she has booked the same from that end this time.
I know the fare is 8860Baht. £200 works out about 13,500Baht so it leaves her a bit of extra for any costs, essentials, taxi to airport etc.
Im in a kind mood at the moment.
