Shipping personal effects back home

Has anyone had any experience in shipping large amounts of personal effects from Phuket overseas (specifically to the US)?

Any recommendations for a cost effective and (more importantly) safe method of shipping?

I'm not talking about shipping bundles of fake t-shirts and watches (many other posts on that already). I'm talking about a few boxes of my own clothes, some musical instruments and other personal stuff. Things I cannot afford to lose to some sticky-fingered customs guy.

For that size of stuff search for luggage shippers or excess baggage shipments..

Cheap and the big problems is Thai customs.. Going the other way you should be cool.. second hand stuff..

You're probably right. Since it's personal stuff - therefore largely irreplacable - I don't mind spending a bit to ensure that it arrives safely. I don't want to lug it around airports if I can avoid it though....
