A license for a motorbike

can anyone tell me where my thai girlfriend can pickup a license to operate a motorbike. The other day she was issued a 300 baht ticket for not having a license.

The Driving License Sub-Division of the Motor Vehicles Registration Office, Tel: 02 279-2959 will tell you where to find the right place.

Well not realluy unbelieveable.. Took me ages of pushing to get mine to go get one also..

But yeah its nuts when we as visitors are telling them how to do stuff in thier country. Emphasizes what I have said a few times about thier abilities to organize or achieve things independantly.

My brother got his license in Phuket Town a couple of weeks back. It cost him 55baht. He said its best to get there early on a Monday.

There's an Colour, Distance, Periferal Vision, Reaction, Highway Code and Driving Test. Even though he messed up the Highway Code bit a couple of times he said it was a peace of cake.

If you have an IDP its only the eye test and reaction tests..

Though check the IDP has a motorbike on it as some dont...

Of course Thai nationals do the whole test.

How does that reaction test work?

When I did my Thai license I had to do a colorblind test, nothing else. (With a international driving permit/license)

You have to put your foot on a pedal (accelerator) and when a light goes from green to red after a random delay move your foor from the right 'go' to the left stop pedal..

Yes of course..

However importing a vehicle to get it legally registered here is a nightmare of tax import duty probably running to 2 or 3 times the value of the machine..

Hope the reaction test is not like the one you have at MTB

Colour Blindness does not hinder you getting a DL in Oz.......l'm colour blind as well as 2 of my brothers, and we all have DL's

I plan on actually getting a Thai driving licence sometime in the future. Is it worth practicing anything? I will bring a Thai to translate anything for me, but I would like to know if anyone knows of any problems about me obtaining one.

My UK driving licence has been "mislayed" (eg stolen lost) and I have an International Driving licence (albeit abit fake).

Would I run into any trouble?

If you have an IDP it can be converted into the Thai 1 year simply by taking the reaction and eye test..

Note the difference between an IDP and an IDL..
