Yes if you are over 50.. You cannot get a retirement visa before that age..
800k in the bank annually and now they want it in there for 3 months prior to the annual check.. But you can use the money to live off during the rest of the year..

So now I have a legitimate reason not to marry a Thai girl. Just trying to clarify, if you are married to a Thai lady, then the 800,00 baht in savings does not apply, you would need to show income instead?

Clarification on retirement visa????
As I understand, a retirement visa is issued for a 1 year, duration.
But, the "retiree", must (check in) with immigration, or local police...every 90 days???
(Kind'a like being a "parolee".)
Also, you may only re-enter the Kingdom, once a year???
I'm confused...or, these are correct statements.

Maybe, for once...I'm NOT confused.
Re-entry permit I assume ($25, or so...), and are they given, freely?

I believe so. Was asked in immigration if I wanted one, and then he looked properly and saw that I didnt need one.

The retirement visa sounds like the best way to go...
All things considered...once a year application/renewal, cheaper than tourist visa extensions, less hassle and worry about (changes), don't have to marry, etc....
Good Deal! (now, just to wait..til' I turn 50 yrs) 5555

I just shipped off my passport, photo's, application, $$$, etc., to the "Royal Thai Consulate General, Los Angeles"...3 days ago.
Applying for a 60 day (really 90, with extension), tourist visa...for the firs time.
On the basis, of the (changes) in policy/enforcement, recently...I don't want any hassle from immigration, regarding extensions etc.
Normally, I just accept the 30 day tourist visa, upon flight arrival. Then, apply for a 10 day extension ($50). Seem's like 40 days, is never time enough, and have considered making a "visa run", occasionally.

Here we go again!!!!!! It was only a few days maybe a week ago, that we tried, but looks like unsuccessfully, to tell everyone that we also have opinions, and are FREE to express them. If you dont like reading the truth, then dont read it.

He isnt alone..
Lots of the expats who have been around a bit longer are looking to cambo.. The price, the fact it is a bit more backward and wild west, the ease of visas and lower being skinned by officials (for now)..
Of course many of the more recent arrivals (me included) like the development and deployment of broadband.. The international goods in modern supermarkets, etc.. These things will keep Phuket appealing to an ever greater number of more normal arrivals..
But the kind of guys who were here when this was dirt roads on Nanai etc are looking to where its dirt roads and less modern again..

I think hes agreeing with you.. people are waking up to the countries around Thailand and Thailand is developing into a less cheap place to be..

I know you are talking about the USA Pablo, but I noticed on my UK documentation that the extension on a 60 day tourist visa is only 15 days.
Everyone always talks about the extension being 30 days and I just wondered if anyone from the UK had recently managed to get 30 day on top of the 60 day tourist visa?????

Excellent service, I believe...from the royal Thai Consulate General, Los Angeles.
I received my passport/visa back, on Dec 1.
That means, 5 days total...(2 days in mail). Very good...the website says to expect 2 weeks time.

And don't forget that to come and go from Thailand on the Retirement Visa...you need a Re-entry Permit which has to be applied for at Immigration in Phuket Town.

I have a Bangkok Bank 3 month higher interest a/c which has a passbook.
I'm not sure what the % is now as i've had it a few years and havn't used it for a while.
