Bike Test

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but here goes.
I heard that the local motorbike driving test over there in Phuket is an absolute piece of p***. I also read somewhere on the forum that you are able to take the test even if you just hold a tourist visa. If this is true would the licence obtained in Thailand be valid in the EU???

You need to have a Non Immigrant O visa or Higher to take the bike test in Phuket. Same thing if you have lost (misplaced) your licence and need another one. A question I would like to know the answer too is, if your Non Immigrant O visa runs out and you come back to Thailand with just a tourist visa is your licence still valid?

I think you need a non imm visa for a license.. Dont think a tourist visa will do.

And if you have an IDP then you can convert it to a Thai without even sitting a test, just an eye and reaction test no driving etc.

Thai licenses are not valid in the EU but after you have held a Thai license for a couple of years you can get a Thai IDP and use that, you cannot however use a Thai license in any country your banned in (its a ban not taking away of your license technically) and you cannot use a Thai license in your country of residence, so if your a brit you cant get a Thai IDP and wave that at Brit police while you live in the UK. Once you have legally changed your domicile and residency you can so I have been told.

I am guessing the license is still valid but they initially only issue a 1 year and after that runs out you can get a 5 year.. So they keep you on a pretty short leash.
