Would £2k be enough for 2months?
Hey guys, I know its probably hard to answer (and I could easily survive on this amount if I had to) given you dont really know what i'll be doing, how much i'll be drinking, what i like to eat etc but would this be enough for 2months in Thailand do you think? the 2k is for accomodation, food, any travel (Not a flight from England, just buses, trains, tuktuks, flights in Thailand) a few sessions on the ale a week, few bits and pieces that you always pick up in markets and stuff like that, maybe going to Cambodia or Vietnam for a week each or something. I definitely plan to do a bit of Bangkok aswell, only for 4 or 5 days though. The main part of the holiday will be Pattaya or Phuket, unsure as yet.
Thanks for your time and any advice massively appreciated even if its just a yes or no answer.

You wont be doing a hell of alot. Forget about internal flights and travelling around. Find a hotel with a nice pool and a good library, and you'll be right.

2 Months for me cost me about 3000 Euro(All included, 800Euro or so on tickets) 21000baht for appartment (3 months) And i wasnt sticky untill the last week. When i came home i had exactly 2000baht left
Thats including a few nights on a nice 4 star hotel, about 3 weeks or so in Jomtien/Pattaya and 1 week in Phuket + transportation with VIP bus between all. If id go again for that long period id probably bring a little bit more.
Also for that i had an allmost full suitcase of new clothes back with me home.

yep its a tough call, but i reckon u can do it with 2k..........
ok u wouldnt be staying in the plushes of places, but if u dont mind the simplest of accomodation, which by some standards is pretty good, double bed ,fan, even your own toilet and shower 555....u can save a hell of a lot that way,and it gets cheaper cambo and nam ways.
your travelling for a while,so u can save on travelling by bus or train......one thing i found whilst travelling SE asia was that is was easy to get about, loads of agents offering deals.......and its bloody cheap.
u say u wanna go patts or/and phuket.....not the cheapest places for general livin, but if your careful with your dosh and dont p1ss it up so often or get 'lead astray'LOL,then you;ll do fine ..the later is the hard part.
it can be done.......just dont be expecting to be doing to much other than checking out the scenery, sampling a few local delights( whatever they be) and a few bevs here and there .
good luck in yer travels

Can be done, would easier after you have been here for a little bit tho..

I just looked at it, that any holiday where you have to watch and worry about your spending is not a holiday. But there are 2 sides to everything, and at times you just have to make do with what you have.
Why not make it 6 weeks, that would make it easier on the budget.

Doable
Should be easily doable depending on how much you want to throw at bar girls. Me and a friend just came back from a 3 month stint and were average £1000, give or take £100, a month including accomodation. More or less got hammered every night too.
Have a good trip.

Like SteveM said, cut down on the time to have more fun. Granted laying on the beach (not beach chairs) and taking long walks are free. If you are at all tempted to have a little fun in the bars and with the girls it will not IMHO be enough. The first thing you must do is to get a realistic grip on how you intend to spend your time and consequently your money. After that you can start on a budget. As for the budget perhaps this may help: ThaiThai.info - Thailand Vacation Calculator

One of Duncs friends came here for 6 months with £5k and went home with £3k, so can easily be done depending on whether you think 5 star and splash your money around or take things a little more careful, accomodation 5 - 7k baht per month, find a girlfriend or only take girtls once a couple of times per week instead of IJ's 2 or 3 a day, eat at Thai places not tourist restaurants, a really good meal can be had for 200 baht or from a street vendor at 60 baht.
Travel will need to be done by bus as airfare probably will stretch your budget, but you can have great fun grabbing buses or lifts. Go for it, if you run out of money, just change your ticket for a earlier flight, nothing to lose.

Well im in the same sort of position...........
I have £5k to last 5-6 months, but i have £3-£4k in back up which i dont want to spend but can if needed.
Up to the end of this week im in a hotel with is cheap for this time of year, but still prefer to be in somewhere like Dodger says, a 7k to 9k a month appartment. I've worked it out that as long as im out of the hotel by the end of next week my budget should hold.
As im not like IJ anyway, i only take a girl 4-5 times a week, my budget should be ok.
Besides im stating my own gigalo business next week........

The main issue is accomodations. You are not going to get these 7 to 9K per month apts. when you are moving around. You have to stay at cheap hotel/guesthouses, which would be in the 500 to 700 Baht range, most likely. So you have to be okay with places that are below the mid-level range as accommodations go. In Patong, try the back streets around Soi Paradise area, for a room without A/C. It's a gay area and a little funky, but safe and close to the main nightlife area.
In BKK, probably Khao San Road is the cheap place to be. But you'll be looking at trying to pick up farang backpacker girls there, as there aren't any ladybars in the area.
The other ways to save money are: eat lots of noodle soup and pad thai at the street vendors, and loads of other good food cheap in the little hole-in-the-wall places where the Thais eat. It's great food and dirt cheap, 25 to 60 Baht for a meal.
And drink in the no-frills bars that sell beers for 35 Baht. No BGs there though. Or buy large bottles of Chang beer at the corner store for 30 Baht and drink in your room before or after you go out.
Also, take either buses or 2nd class cars on trains everywhere. They are quite decent and very cheap.

yep sound advice JB......hmmmm specially the soi paradise bit.
depending on what time the OP is going,u can find some very good accomadations for around 400-500b(if yer paying single nights),these GH go up to the region of 1000b right amongst the peak season, but stay fairly low otherwise.
OP.... if u want these contacts PM me.
couple of my pals sussed out some 200b a night places, they were extremists though 55555,places were'nt to bad, just a place to get your head down, cold shower, just a bed in a room, with toilet and shower all - in- one(great),but enough to get u by if need be.
i can hear it now............bloody backpackers....555555

Honestly cannot understand how someone can do this on 2K??? It honestly baffles me, I spent about 5K euros in a month last time out, And although I travelled around a little and stayed in nice enough hotels, But in saying that if I was doing it on budget, I would still only have saved about 20-22k so its not that much, And then I sat in a good few nights on that trip, Maybe 3 nights, I was on the water about 4 nights and spent hardly anything, I also dont drink alcohol in the daytime.. I do spend a little more than most on my food as I dont eat much Thai food, Say around 500 - 800 a day so I suppose you could cut that in half and save another 6(low) - 12k(High)... I also didnt take girls home every night, And for nearly 10 nights I was with a girl and she wouldnt take any money from me..
Now I do like a drink or ten and have a good time when I go out, I also like to buy a girl a drink, But still unless you dont intend indulging in the pay4play scene and are not big on drinking alcohol I think you will be dissapointed, I know for a fact that I could not manage on that kind of money, Even if I was to cut down some of the above to the minimal like Accom & Food, I would only be saving around 800 euros tops, And lets say I cut down my Alcohol & Girls by a 1000 euros (Which would be impossible for me).. I still would be spending 3200 euros in one month (Not Two)???
Sorry if it was me, I wouldnt bother going with that kind of money...

Depends on how mad you want to go. being here for a couple of months is different to being on holiday obviously. When you settle into a 'normal' routine you should find it to be more than enogh. Obviuosly its better to budget higher and have some left over than run out.

I spent the month of December in Bangkok and spent 75,000 baht. While on a short tour (i.e. 3 weeks), I normally spend 5,000 baht per day or at a rate of 150,000 baht per month. So at half that budget, you can essentially do the same amount of things every 2 or 3 days.
If you are on a 2 month stay, then it is not feasible, nor practical to be on the piss every night, out at the bars, and barfining the girls. Every 2 or 3 nights worked fine for me.
I think 2,000 GBP is enough to have a fine time. There are many days (er nights) where you will not want to go out (knowing you have plenty of time left) and spend only 500 baht in a day...

ok..... my thoughts are......u wouldnt be splashing out,u wouldnt be drinking day in -day out,u wouldnt be eating in the top restaurants(who says u have by the way to get decent food),u wouldnt be P4P everyday thats for sure.....but if u wanted to go and see something u never seen before ,or just go and chill, see whats going on and get by,as long as u knew that was all your gonna do ,and could keep to that, i would do it,maybe cutting your trip down is a good idea(as mentioned, can always change your flight),if that includes 'holidaying it' a bit more.
lets do the math.....
ok 60 days...£2k=£33.3 a day..........hmmmm not much,actually stay at home.
nah jus kidding,
so £33.3........depending on what time of year u are going...
say its low season and u go phuket.
say u spent £7-£8(400b-500b) on accomadation per night.
leaves u with around £25(1700b)
eating can be as little as 50p roughly a meal(30b),eat 3 -4 times a day thai style and thats cost u £2(120b)....room for splashin on food as well.
so leaves u with £23(1580b).......
ok th | |
