Certainly pays to shop around. I need to go back to UK for a few weeks. Had a look at various airlines sites for the days I want and best I found where you don't have 7/8 hours transit waiting time at somewhere like Dubai/Amman/Kiev is Etihad with their quick transit times....

Return fare to Gatwick 26750baht + 8755tax = 35505

Thought I'd try a couple of travel agents in Patong. Gave the first one the Etihad flights and dates and she came back with 34000baht plus tax!!

Went to another and they quoted me 35505baht...the exact same price as booking direct with Etihad...so I know where I'm getting the ticket from.

If you are starting from Phuket Austrian Airlines have a great deal, as their flight (twice a week is straight to Vienna) Then your choice Europe. With the tax it is going to come out around 40,000 but no ticket up to BKK and good transit times. UK tax is seriously rude latley.

MAS also have good fares from HKT to UK and only one transit in KL

35505 is Etihad BKK to Gatwick and return next month.

Re: MAS, I don't like the 12+ hour flights. Much prefer using the Arab flights with a break half way...but they do work out a bit cheaper at the moment

From : Bangkok or Phuket
To : Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Zurich

Return Ticket Frm THB 26,500 + tax so about 35000baht total but it includes the flight to and from KL to connect.

You should consider using Malaysian from KL if you don't mind those long nonstop flights. I hate them!...and Gatwick is far better for me anyway because I have to do another flight from there as there aren't any from Heathrow to where I neeed to go.

Saw some excellent fares from Royal Brunei Air BKK-FRA-BKK non-stop. Wonder how much it's now.

I flew very cheaply (<30k) with Gulf Air with 2 stops in Oman and Bahrein. Never again! Oversold, dirty planes, lousy food, rude personnel, only 20 KG luggage allowed and strictly enforced (ended up trashing about 5 KG of my stuff).
