Tight Lines!
Me and Dodger got fed up of listening to all these rubber fetish Frogmen types telling us about how many big/huge/massive/humongous fish they've spotted feeding around Phuket.........So decided to 'take the plunge' (Diving Joke there!) and invest heavily in the best tackle that Kamalalala Fishing Tackle Emporium could provide at short notice.
I watched a local fisherman come in and buy what looked like some pretty mean game fish gear (Local fisherman......watch like hawk........buy what he buys!) and I managed to quickly get some under my t-shirt and shove the rest of the gear under a shelf and cover the box with some old net things while Dodge was messing about with some reels! Dodger also bought some sad looking, ropey old squid-wiggle-jiggy-things which he thinks will do the trick........Ha!
We now have 'Special' fishing hats which we were told by the lady that sold them to us "Blessed by Monk - Help catch BIIIIIG ones! Ha Ha Ha Haaa!".......Personally, I think she may just have something!
Just need a boat now and I can show the 'D' how it's done!

Please send photo of boat & motor.

Between me and you Diz, I reckon that's the only place Dodge is likely to catch anything!! Leave the wide open seas and the really big buggers to those who know what they are doing out on the white crested waves of the South Andaman Sea.
He thinks I bought 30lb line...........Tch! More like 130lb breaking strain for the ones I'm going to be pulling in all day.

The Old Man and the Sea
Get hold of this old black and white movie staring Spenser Tracey (from an novel by Hemmingway I think). Then you will know what going fishing is all about.
Remember if in doubt you can always suck a fisherman's friend.

Lined up a little day on the water for the 3d's tomorrow, Denver, me and Duncs, with our gf's in tow. Got a mate with a big ol boat who wants to take us out to some island, little bit of light lunch, few beers, bit of snorkling and a quick wizz back. However...................
Been out with Denver tonight for a few beers in Kamala, talk turns to fishing (as it does now for blokes our age) phssss.... what he doesn't know is I've bought a litle spinning silver jobby with the biggest feck off hooks youv'e ever seen (got to catch a whale on this little lure) and talk turns to should we just happen to lob our new totally virginal rods and tackle boxes (brimming with shiney new stuff bought out of ignorance and a desire to out buy D man) and maybe just maybe do a little bit of fishing stuff on the way to this out of nowhere island.
Just so I'm totally prepared and slightly ahead of the little chubby opition geezer downstairs I've been sharpening my hooks for the last hour (okay 5 minutes), I will without doubt take the camera for pictoral evidence, (especially as even if I say so myself I do strike an amazing resemblance to Tagasaki Unioko in my special japanese fishing hat) and the world can witness the monsters from the deep that I invite to experience dodger hospitality.
Keep you posted on developements as things are getting a little heated now what with D man casting ledgers with big feck off hooks onto my balcony!!!!!!

What Sef? Dodger harping on about his alleged 'so-called' fishing skills! If he wizzes that squid lure jiggy thing down into my rhodedendruns (Sp) again, I am going to be forced to call the Kamalalala Fishing Police and have him arrested for impersonating a fisherman.
Ernest Hemingway may have wrote a good book or three about catching fish, I am just going to show the 'young pretender' upstairs how it's actually done.
Just gave my rod a damn good polishing and it's all set for tomollow.........Best I get to bed if we are getting up anytime before midday!

Well, I'm pleased to report that we are back safely from our first venture on the Andaman high seas. Every inch of my skin is burnt and that's...........a lot of skin.
Dodger woke me up in the middle of the night (1015) to say we were leaving at 1030! I had set my alarm for 1159 hours just in case. Over to boat lagoon via the ice shop for..........ice and some drinkies. Onto the good ship 'Barracuda' (That name certainly has potential) and pootle out of Boat Lagoon and onwards, full throttle to Koh Rang Yai (East coast with Island of Lipi straight ahead) We soon arrived in some good deep water with the potential of.............The BIG one!
Nervous tension building, Dodge started off by putting the Squid-Jiggy-Wobbler-Flapper-Thingie on his trace and I snapped on a Rubber.............Wobble Fish Thingie with lots of hooks. I was panicking as there were quite a few dustbin lid jelly-fish out there today and I didn't fancy snagging one! Jelly-fish.................What do they do?????
I can't tell a lie here, so will have to tell you that after an hour or two of constant vigilance over a Tiger or seven that Dodger managed to catch................SOD ALL...........I on the other hand managed to.........

My Dad, myself and a few of my mates went fishing last Wednesday. We didn't catch anything monsterous however we caught around 17 decent size Tuna.
The next day we BBQ'd them and fantastic. My mate did the preparation and they turned out great. He got a little flour, lemon/pepper seasoning and some garlic salt. Put all in a plastic ziploc bag and then put each fillet in separate. Shake the bag around for a bit and then straight onto the BBQ.
I will say, best seasoning and fish I've ever had. TASTY!

I know a guy who does serious sport fishing tours but without the serious sportfishing costs.. Not so much of a drunken jolly.. More off at first light to motor flat out to the deep water shelf to the west.
I have seen thier pics and fishermans tales.. Some sailfish..
I would describe it as low end of the proper sport fishing scene.. Costs nothing like the high end guys who advertise but also boat probably not as slick.. Keen Scottish skipper.

Sef might have to get a few details, but you got to promise me you do not tell Denver as any edge I can get over the cubby one will be most welcome. I will also pop in to Dingo's this week and get a few tips from (feck sorry lost your name in the midst of this fishing thread post, it will come back to me, hopefully before the end of this post so no one will know I temporarily forgot it) the man himself. He nonchalantly mentioned they caught a gazillion Tuna, we didn't even get to play a tuna not even one of my favurites from way back west!!!
Wonder if we find a good place to catch some stuff and name the location, whether the thread or post would be deleted???? is catching local tuna or cuda illegal withjout a licence??? better go check that up, not got to rush cos based on our trip yesterday it is going to be awhile before we fall foul of any anti fishing police.
P.S notice I did not mention anything about Denvers catch of the day...........................sod all, nowt, nuffink, reckons he had a bite against my nil bites, nil fish, reckons that puts him one bite up in the competition, closest he got to a bite yesterday was from a big ol crab some monks found on the beach next to us, what were those monks doing on the beach????, well I reckon word had got out about our trip and they had eagerly come down to the beach to see the big world famous Farang Fishing bruvvers..........

Is this becoming one of those 'bear and cub' relationships that Pauly was talking about..

Nope I didn't want to put Chubby as then he would claim another victory over me as he would have a name after a fish and as I don't then he would be one up in the fish name stakes.

I know it was an actual bite because I am a tuned to the sea, at one with the water, it was definately a nibble on the old fish-a-likey lure.......Probably by a massive fish.......I reckon!
The monks were only on the Island as they had probably seen a vision of a Buddha-a-likey wading ashore there in thier meditations and incantations......They weren't far out.......unfortunately, this Buddha had a thong on and was carrying a cooler box of Tigers!
If all the Tuna are swimming around being caught around the South of the Island and we are in a boat off the East coast then it looks like we are going to have to get some longer line Dodger!! I have a map and I am looking for names on there like........Tuna Point.....Catch'em Cave........Barracuda Bluff........Nobby Clark Deeps.........Basking Shark Beach etc......But all the names are in Thai, so I am having to guess!!!!
I think a day out on the Scottish blokes boat is in order to be able to put our extensive collection of top of the range fishing tackle to the ulitimate test...........I also better ring Kev as well......I was so wrapped up in catching the BIG one that I forgot it was Sunday and I was supposed to be meeting him at the Klongie place for Sunday lunch...............Sorry Kev!!!!
DOH!
