How long there? MWs diminishing....! Can we catch up - I'm back in Pa Tong Saturday.
Cheers mate

Sometimes he likes to de-compress a bit. Normal service will probably be resumed shortly.

Hello Campers!
Yep, back in Kabul at the moment with a move down South on the cards.
Thanks for the PM's (39 of 'em!!) I will try and play catch up on those as soon as I've got my feet back on the ground here! Sorry to the Dubai lads for missing you! I made up for it with some Russian bint for $200 at Xanadu which was ideally located on the ground floor of my hotel (The Capitol down near the dry docks world place) Bit expensive but what the hell hey? Bit of a change, blond, blue eyes and she did have legs right up to her armpits!
Good to meet a few new BM's and of course all the usual suspects!!! EB was MIA bless him 555555
56 brand new Toyota Hilux's in the yard! Woooooo Hooooo! Arrived while I was away. 4 of them already have smashed windscreens from the exhaust from the one placed on the transporter above them and wasn't shackled down enough! So I am currently dealing with a claim against the Turkish transporter people (Anybody speak Turkish on here? Please!!!) Plus I've still to register them into the Afghan equivalent of the DVLA.
I now have 3 passports! Thanks Bernie for the help with that. It must have been your signature on the back of my photo's that swung it! It's a long story and I'll relate it later! Cost me 1800 Dirhams mind!
Flying Pig 2 was purchased and is currently with Nels. Seems to be running OK. I found it on the Gazette and gave the bloke a ring. It could be the one Deano saw as he did want 100K for it originally. I found out he was ex-RAF and we talked bullshit for half an hour and I got him down to 80K and I was happy with that.
The fun and frollocks up in Phuket Town Immigration and Vehicle Licensing place I will relate later as that was a fun day out as well!!!!!! Got a major bollocking from some high ranking Thai Immigration General for not coming back in on my Visa as I was only coming in for 14 days and didn't need 90 days............A big 'no-no' apparently! Ooopsy Doopsy!
The Pilly-Peeno's seem happy with the gifts of affection I brought back with me from Dubai but have yet to give my knob an extra spit and polish! My sacks are empty from a couple of weeks down time in Thailand anyway, so good to go for a while yet.
I couldn't live in Dubai BTW.........Apologies to all of those of you that do.
Kanun ve teamüle aykırı olarak...Pay up yer b'stid or else apparently! - Just might work?
Laters. Stay safe.

Does the rear canopy come off so that you can put a water cannon on the back for next Songkran???
You would have had a lot of practice at doing that by then!!!
Good luck and don't forget to keep your head down!!!

Cheers Visa! I've got a bit of the olde LOS Blues right now but things are looking up, I got to kick one of the locals today for loosing one of my mobile phones! So there's always an upside! Plus the six days in Dubai didn't help!
Plus the wonga as well. Not sure what exchange rate my Finace bloke is using on my Baht salary but it wasn't the best last month! Once I release his thumbs from the rope nooses and let him down and give him time to reflect on the errors of his measily bad accounting on my behalf I should have a good month this month! Especially as it's a 31 day month and I am on a daily rate of pay.
Bloody South Africans eh? Tch!

I know, I know! Sorry about that our kid! It wasn't all pleasure though! I had a couple of visits to the British Consulate and my boss was in town and wanted to drag me out to various establishments of ill repute and force me to drink beer! Two business related meetings and a bit of shopping at City Centre Mall and that was me in a taxi to Terminal 2.
I missed a PM from Mister T as well, so if you are reading this Mister T! Sorry for that...........Definately next time.
I spent one day in bed after waking up on a sun lounger at the side of a pool with people eating their lunch in a Lebanese Restaraunt right next to it! Not sure who was more surprised! Me or the Lebanese Platter munchers!
I may well come and annoy you in October on my next time through! Be afraid, be very............afraid! 555555

Yes! Shunted to the **** end of Dubai Airport to mingle with the great un-washed and shout "SNAP!" at any other white man or anyone not wearing a rag on his head or carrying his entire belongings on his back that you see there!
All the worlds best destinations leave from there! Baghdad, Islamabad, Kabul, Darfur, Mogadishou, Sanaa, Djibuoti, Rochdale etc etc
I love it! I'm sure they've turned the air-con down in there on purpose just to annoy fat blokes on their way back to work! For a laugh like!
I can honestly say I have never heard of any of the airlines flying out of termianal 2 apart from Ariana!
You know you are heading back to work at Terminal 2! They should sell t-shirts with that on!

Pretty successful trip over and a much needed break from here.
Managed to get the purchase and take over of the 'Pope Mobile' done, get a couple of days away at a nice relaxing resort with some lovely company. I have been trying to find time to sort out my passports for a while now and always finding an excuse to 'put it off' as I tend to do sometimes.
I was bollocked by both Thai and UAE Immigration for the state of my passport with the bloke in Dubai almost at the point of not letting me in. So time to do something about it. I had knocked up a letter from my employers explaining the justification in my having a second passport etc but it wasn't really needed.
I managed to get a 48 page extension passport (additional to my current passport) They gave me my first passport back which still has 4 years to run as it had my Afghanistan and Thai visa inside. They then took the money from me for a further 48 page passport and then told me it would take two weeks to be processed! So I now have someone heading to the Consulate on the 21st to pick up two new passports and hand them to someone coming back off leave into Kabul and then to me. Painful but handy for me.
Then a bit of a chill out in my place, just putting my feet up, swimming, watching crappy DVD's and ignoring emails from work and not logging onto here for a while! A couple of massages, lazy long days in bed with whoever I chose to be with and then nights on my own, in my own bed, which I really do enjoy as I get older, just having the bed to myself, if that makes sense?
Anyway, back to work with a vengence, next leave in October which seems miles away right now.
I am in negotiation for an apartment at the "Club" which some of you will know I spent a year there renting. The guy is getting divorced and moving and has asked a silly price for a quick sale and is much less than I lost with my shares. I like the buzz/feel/vibe at the 'Club' and it has great expat management. Financially, it would mean me living at around 6.5K per month for the next 23 years which will take me to 70 and probably long gone by then. Plus it is a busy little rental apartment from what I have seen from the books, it being on the ground floor and right next to the pool, so, after some great advice from Bernie, I have thought 'Sod it' and am going for it. If it all goes Pete Tong I can afford to lose it, I have already lost more as I said earlier and wasn't even asked about that one!!!! I will have a bit more of a base, can store my stuff there and feel a bit easier about the security over the current place.
I will have to sponsor a thread on here and advertise it! Great little batchelor place, I'll throw in the Condoms, the 'Pope Mobile and the Flying Pig! Fookin' bargain what? The 'Denpah's Shag Palace' Thread.
I won't be in Thailand after my next leave in October until about April 2010 and I know I can get 20K a month for the apartment over those 6 months of high season as I head back to the UK to see my folks and renew my Visa.
So that's me right now. Starting to fit UHF radio's into the first 10 of the 50 new Hilux's tomollow, if I can remember how to do it!!! At least they aren't armoured as they are a right pain in the backside to do! Then I can Fcuk the Surfs off back to where they came from!
Busy Busy! Stay safe wherever you are right now, Laters.

I had a look at those ground floor units near the pool earlier this year with Bernie.
At that time they were upping the ante to 20K year-round which was a bit rich for Kamalala. However an ideal location for me (and near to you 55555!)
I'm guessing your buy price - sounds very reasonable!
I'd be interested next year if something similar comes up.

Shares willl come back ... must have recovered good whack already, despite my and Sefton's sometimes gloomy prognostications the reality is that one day things will recover (as they always have).
Good luck with your Club purchase - very rentable even in the worst of times.

Thanks Baz and Kev,
Part of it is hearing of all the horror storys of keeping too much money in my Thai bank account and wanting to use it on something! Hence the 'Pope Mobile' and now this.
My investments have improved a little over the last 3 months and they are on the up as opposed to the monthly doom and gloom reports I had been getting from my financial advisor. I have sufficient funds still in those to keep a smile on his face even after I take some of it out.
There were/are three apartments for sale at the 'Club' and obviously that set alarm bells off with my usual cautious self. I enquired about all of them and they seemed legitimate sales. Divorces, new jobs and a plain old return to the UK fulltime. They are not knocking the place down anytime soon.
One was just a studio for 1.5 mill and on the 3rd floor. Too small for me and I don't like the studio kind of living. It had a kitchenette type thing and a seperate bathroom but very small. There was a two bed which effectively is two one beds knocked through and made into a living, bar and eating place and a sleeping, washing area, all very nicely done. It also has two balconys but is again, on the third floor. That was up at 2.5 mil.
This one is a one bed, next to the pool, good access from the road or from inside the complex. I investigated the communal fee's or whatever they are called, that each owner must pay for the up keep of the place, gardens, pool, external lighting and security etc and it worked out at about 500 quid a year, when I think what I pay in Council tax in the UK and for very little I think it is very reasonable. The place is always immaculate and is now well established after it's current 7 year life.
The guy wanted 2.3 originally because of it's location (A lot of elderly couples rent it as it is nice to sit out in front of and then straight into the pool) Plus no stairs to navigate. I also like the 'Hotel and Residence' set up there. i.e. You can use all the facilities of the 'Club Hotel' - Dining, airport pick ups, excursions, doctor on call and their own seperate pool and jacuzzi etc while living in the 'Residency' bit! Which is also great to offer people for rentals etc.
I got the blokes email from the Manager there and we started chatting. I put my cards on the table and gave him my best offer which is a mixture of $ and Baht and very much well under the 2 mil mark (I have spent more on cars in the past let's say!) and he has gone for it!
The place is fully loaded furniture wise, TV and electrical wise, UBC and Internet wise, cooking wise, linen and towels wise and pretty much a walk in once I have found a painter to give all the walls a flick over with some magnolia!!! I have covered parking for the 'Pig' and a slot for the 'Pope Mobile' right outside the place! Sorted.
Primarliy it is for me in my future years as I do like the location, security, expat vibe etc and the fact it is very rentable at around the 20K per month area is a bonus as I may well be away a while for the next couple of years or so before I 'retire'...............Again!!!!! I feel better about leaving this place in the hands of the management than I do where I am now, so it is a bit of 'peace of mind' for me when I am away for long periods.
There!!!! Justified it to myself again...........!!!! 55555

Sounds like a very good buy for only $1.8 mil. Obviously, you have honed your bargaining skills dealing with the likes of those gentle Afghani blokes you've posted pics of!

With lower rental and more vacancies in the low season it would come in less than 12%,but....still a good return and a great little investment there Denver.
Sorry to hear you won`t around these parts too much in the near future...
Good luck with it all mate..

5555555 I could change my name from Denpah to Donald...................Trump!
It is working out at 1.75 Mil Baht but I still have a few legal bits and bobs to sort out and no doubt a bigger telly and move the current one into the bedloom for the ladies to watch! So will end up at around the 2 Mil mark as you say.
As Bernie mentioned to me, little places around the 2 Mil mark is still a bouyant market with places exchanging hands regularly and this one hasn't been on the market that long before a mug (Me!) came along and bought it!
4 months rent will have paid for the 'Pope Mobile' and anything over that will go towards the maintenance fees and cleaning and the rest I can just fritter away on some loose, loose women...........for Moi! Tch!

Cheers Lew,
I bought it for me, the rental side is a bonus, if it rents! There are 23 years on the first 30 of the 30/30/30 to run which as I said takes me to 70 years of age and I probably won't be too bothered by then if the second 30 years falls through. I am investigating all that mullarkey and have found where this has happened in the past on a 'leasehold' and the Thai Courts have found for the Farang!!! Like I said, I don't normally look further than my nose and day by day, never mind almost a quarter of a century down the line.
Never put in more than you are willing to lose etc and in this case I'm not.
Not sure what 1.75 Mil divided by 12 months divided by 23 years but I think I should have some cheap months further down the line.
Not sure with this contract Lew. I will be back in October for my R&R then back here for my next 3 month stint. My visa will have expired then and I am asking this company to fly me to the UK vice Phuket for my January R&R to renew my Non Imm 'O' and play catch up with my folks.
Then back here and I guess my next downtime would be April-ish 2010 which of course I will be heading Kamalalalala way. Once my accounts are looking a little more healthy mate I will be out of here, I don't want to be here a day, hour, minute longer than I need to be, needless to say.
Anyway, abcess makes the fart go honda! Which is a very old joke from way back when. I must admit to liking coming back after 3 months away and getting back into the 'groove' of Thailand, you tend, or rather I tend, to forget some of the things we like about the place when constantly there. If that make sense?
